I have nothing against drinking in moderation or those who do so. I also enjoy an occasional beverage. Just do it where, and when, you won't endanger anyones life.

If you don't respect your own life enough to curtail your consumption while boating, at least respect the life of those you share this world with.

On weekends like this one when the waterways are clogged with boaters, 100% concentration is called for. If your drinking, your not 100%, whether you want to admit it or not.

I should add that I'm not anti-drinking either. I think it can be done very responsibly and I also think it can be done on a boat - its just a matter of making the right decisions.

If I wanted to have a few beers on the boat, I would just make sure that there was someone to be the designated driver. I have a friend that does this all the time - those of us that know him well, know that he may ask us to drive his boat all day, as long as we don't drink. He likes his beers but doesn't want to be dumb about enjoying them.

Smart guy.

We do the same thing Jay, on the road, and on the water. I like it, as it gives me a chance to enjoy a beer (or six) somedays, and to drive things I don't own, and can't afford on other days.

If I wasn't responsible, I wouldn't get to play with other peoples toys.

Like this baby for example :D ...

I am often asked to drive home after events, because they know it is in safe hands.

This does not seem like the place for anyone to tell anyone else what to do about their drinking, other than to say to keep it responsible. Other than that it is just preaching and as someone else said, keep it to church!

I'll tell it to the Catholic Monks at the monastery next time I go by to pick up a keg of their beer! :D

P.S. This was not about drinking, or church/religion, it was about safe boating. Don't confuse the three.

In all fairness to those with differing opinions, I probably shouldn't have written such a long post about the drinking/driving thing, because doing so can, indeed, sound like a sermon.

That said, I did it because I think often times, we don't really think about what can happen after what seems like a simple decision, unless a real life example is provided. Frankly, after all these years, I still find it astounding that we have a legal system that would give someone "the time of day" when it comes to suing someone else who did absolutely nothing wrong.
