Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake
Wow.
Blue Crabber, if you're home let us know. I tried raising you through the afternoon.
We got out late. I took my time installing the new antenna. The cable was too short to run it to where the radio was mounted in the cabin, so I moved the radio outside to my helm, I like that better.
I also realized I am not the master "solderist" I think I am, it's a PITA to solder the cable end.
Anyway that, and replacing the stereo in the tow rig, we didn't hit the water till 4pm. Hmmm, temps in the 90's, high humidity, what could happen?
We got the weather alert on our radio, as we were anchored up in Carrot(Cara) cove. We had some fun swimming, and ate some dinner. The alert came on suggesting we find shelter immediately, so we stowed our gear, pulled anchor and cut across the NE river at Hance pt.
Got just past were everyone anchors at the flats, and come across a smaller bow rider with a 90hp rude on the back, with the cover off. We asked if they were having issues, their steering cable was broken.
I asked if they had a radio, they only had cells. They had a kid and woman with them.
I told them I hadn't towed anyone before, They said they could putt in with the guys steering the boat with their hands. We followed until they started into the Perryville channel. One look upriver told me I wasn't taking my boat up there, we wished them luck and turned around and booked into Tydings and hid out at the launch ramp for a half hour or so until that mean little storm headed SE.
That storm had mean looking clouds, lightening, a good amount of rain, and friggin wind. The water was flat, then whitecapped in a moment!
Scared my wife, but I never got stressed.
These photos do it no justice, and when it really looked cool we were busy LOL.
Hiding behind Arks and his neighbors boats, not a bad place to hide from a storm heading SE
