Neat little story Stan. We always comment about that place coming or going from the Goose. Neat little villa. Thanks for sharing. Its funny how small the world is.
I have the original sales receipt and all the service records for the boat. What I'm hoping is that someday Braun comes looking for the boat back ala Papa John's and his camaro. Then maybe I'll be able to afford that house and that new boat.....but I guess I'll keep my wife instead of the blonde. Yes, she's watching...

i feel the same way...if I can't pay in cash then either I don't need it or I wait til I can. Credit is a killer.

My trucks are newer, but my boat is an '86. Speaking of which, here's a couple of little pieces of info about my boat which you might find interesting, since you're familiar with the houses around Anchor. You know that little spanish villa looking place on the first point on the left as you're coming out of Anchor? It used to be owned by a man named George Braun....that's right as in "Braun Shavers". Guess who the original buyer was on my boat? Damn your good, that's right George Braun. My boat used to sit on the lift at the side of the pier at that little villa. It was purchased originally from Anchor Marine. I musta passed it and admired it a thousand times back in the late 80's and 90's. Never woulda thought one day I'd own it. Go figure.
That's awesome!

On another note, I'm curious for next summer......How many of you have kids and bring them on the boat? I have 3 daughters 9,6 and 2 and all have been boating since they were each a few months old. But my concern is if we get together next summer, are the kids gonna be a drag for everyone else, or do others have kids and bring them along? They are all well-behaved, but I know how things are.

My son will be 3 next Sept and I'm hoping this next season will have him on the boat a LOT more.

We don't have kids yet but we love them!! Always enjoy having my young cousins out on the boat and they love it too so it works out well.

I don't mind kids on the boat at all as long as they behave and listen. I am all for having fun, I just don't want anyone to get hurt.

I didn't make it out earlier enough this year to see Bill DC at the raft up but I know that he had some kids along and I didn't here that there were any problems.

Anyway, all that to say, bring them out and let them have fun. Have to get the next generation into boating! I can't imagine there would be any problems as long as they are well behaved as you said.

I am looking forward to a raft up this year!

We don't have kids, but we take our nephews and nieces along sometimes. No drag for us at all, heck, our business deals with mostly kids!

We introduced our daughter to boating when she was only 3 months old! Of course, with her aboard I was always more careful around wakes and took extra care to keep her out of the sun. She's now 20 and still like it a lot. And she's a better fisher-person than me! :D

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel as well. Kids are always welcome if they know and follow the 'rules'. That's why I posted some guidelines before our raft-up last summer.

I gotta say, they were GREAT kids! They all were VERY respectful, asking politely if they could come aboard. They seemed to really enjoy themselves that day.

So Stan, I guess the 'short answer' is: BRING 'EM, and HAVE FUN!!!!!!

Like I said, it's been years since I was there and I went in from the land side. We took a boat out in the creek from the campgrounds ramp, but we didn't go far. My time estimate was based on where I thought the campgrounds were. I didn't even remember the name correctly; I knew it didn't sound right but couldn't figure out why. I did get the brackish part right though, and I definitely remember the lily pads. That's a whole other story, though.

Go on, Tell 'em. They'll Love it:D

BTW, can someone refresh my memory on how far downstream the no wake zone extends..... I think it's Ordinary Point, but it's been a while.

I think you may be right, IIRC.

*edit* after studying chart 12274 the no wake zone starts at Ordinary point and Turner Creek, like you thought.

Hmmm......
Have they changed it in the past year???
Reason I ask is because I didn't make it to the Sassafras this year but spent the previous 20 years running around there. The no-wake zone began at Oldfield Point, just east of Woodland Creek and right on Longitude 75.55. The NOAA chart shows a datum line crossing the river right there. That's more than 3 miles farther upstream than Ordinary Point!
I spent many afternoons there- sometimes watching a DNR boat hide behind a dock on the north side, just waiting for someone to go past the bouys on plane. They always kept busy...

We took a trip up the Sassafras this past summer for the first time. (Late summer) Ended up sitting out a storm in the Granary Restaurant before heading back to North East. (Side note - Excellant restaurant!! Thanks for the suggestion Arks.)

When we were there, the "No Wake" zone started around Oldfield Point. Even there it is almost a 15 min idle into the Georgetown area IIRC ;)

The Sassafras river is very beautiful and we plan to make a few more trips back there this summer.

TREMENDOUS THANKS! Great info! We will be on the Sassafras this spring. Yes, we have a place at Indian Acres.

Here is a pic of the graphics going on the Scarab next month.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Happy Holidays everyone. I am looking for a good fiberglass place around the upper bay. I want to expand the hatch on the port locker so it can be used as a head. The kids can already use it, but my wife can't, and she's the one I have to keep happy. Any way I'm hoping to get the work done in the early spring or depending on how long it will take I can wait until I'm in that area already. I know all of you are very safe boaters and have never personally needed fiberglass work, but maybe your "friends" have needed some work. Thanks for the help, and Happy New Year.

Hey Bill, and Happy Holidays to you, too!
So far I've always done my own glass work, but I've only heard good things about The Glassman in Northeast, Md. at Bay Boat Works.
They always seem busy when I go past there....
