What was not mentioned is that the light is aimed downstream and if you are approaching it from upstream the light doesn't usually stand out well, thus the pole it is mounted on can be very difficult to pick out at night....a definite hazard to be on the lookout for.
I regularly do night time cruises up the C&D canal and coming back west, that light, or rather the mount, is one of the things to be watching for.
As others have reported, that is indeed the lower of the the two upper Elk River range lights.We came across this is in the Elk River just north of the Bohemia... what is it?
