Too early to tell. Depends on the weather.

Isn't digital photography great? I took probably 50 pictures and got maybe 10 good ones.:)

Yeah, and and those 2 visits account for exactly 1/3 of my total time on the water this summer.....grrrrrrrrr

I know what you men.I took about 50 shots of the babes at Lloyds creek. I think I got a boat or two also.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

my marina just asked me to move my boat to an inner pier to get more protection from this storm.
it seems less likely that it will head out to sea, and more likely that it will brush us.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Question to some of you all whos opinion I value. I need a new depth finder for my boat. I have an old Hummingbird wide eye that the screen has faded. It still works good but the wife say it hard to read and you need a new one. Who am I to argue?

I have an old Garmin GPS V but it is realy old with a very small screen. I am thinking of getting the Humminbird? 385ci. looks like a great unit for the $$ about 400 dollars. A regular depth finder is only 149.00 is it worth the extra money for built in GPS?

Thanks for any and all opinions. What would you get with about 400.00 dollars?

I'm sure your marina wants to play it safe, but my weather program shows our homeport being sunny or partly cloudy right thru Monday. If the eye stays off the Atlantic coast, the only problem we could have around HdG might be wind. Of course it could change, so just pay attention to the track and if it's not looking good, literally batten down the hatches and double up your lines. Don't even THINK about staying onboard if it gets bad.

Hurricanes are intense low pressure systems and spin counter-clockwise. The eastern side of the eye has stronger forces, so if you've gotta be near one- the west side is it.

When Isabel came thru in '03 it went thru central Va. and western Pa. As you know, that track made for a real mess on the entire Chesapeake. Even after the surge receded, HdG had unbelievable high water and strong current for over a week due to all the heavy rain in Pa and its runoff down the Susquehanna. Look here, click on Storm Track: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...a=X&ei=7o59TODyLsaAlAf3jqntCw&ved=0CCYQ9QEwBQ

The weather is looking really nice for the weekend. Maybe we can try for another raft up?

would you rather be anchored during a hurricane, or docked?

no, it does not have a trailer.
it's a 26 ft sailboat, with a 4 ft draft

I didn't have the Silverton until '04- at the time I had a 23' Wellcraft- and a trailer.
I had a slip but the boat was in my back yard during Isabel.
There was some boat damage but NONE went down. My dock neighbors told me the boats that were damaged hadn't been prepped for the storm- canvas left in place, old dock lines, etc.

Anchored with multiple hooks in a protected cove. I've actually made up a special 'hurricane rig' which allows me to set 3 anchors from the bow. I'd do it at least 12 hours before the wind picks up.

The problem with staying in a marina during a hurricane is that even if YOU do everything right there'll always be some idiot who won't do jack, and his boat will break loose and take out a bunch of others....
Whatever you do, make sure the insurance is up to date, and take pictures of the preparations to document the efforts in the event of a loss.

Not really the upper bay but we are going on a 3 hour tour this labor day weekend. We are driving to Easton Saturday and doing a bit of touring the eastern shore. From Easton to Tilman island and around to St Micheals. We Plan on spending the night at the days inn at Easton and Sunday we are going to explore Kent Island and Kent Narrows maybe even try to make it up to Rock Hall.

I hope the weather is great. here is a link of the map I made to get an idea of distance.

I've always wanted to cruise into St micheals and do that parade of boats thing where they cruise by the Crab Claw and back.

I can't make it, but please post some pics.

First night time boating last night from Chesapeake Inn to NE, man was that nerve racking. I was in someones boat and he knows the area very well, but still didn't take my eyes off the water the entire trip. That accident from a couple of weeks ago was on my mind.
