Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

it was prob an unlighted nun bouy.
Those unlighed bouys can be dangerous at night, even sober.
I think they should all be lighted. if you don't put a light on it, just don't put it out there.

one night i came within 10 ft or a bouy near the sand islands. But i was going 5 mph.
Nah, the article says it happened on the Elk by Elk Neck state park....no unlit nuns or cans out there. Easy to get confused by all the lights out there anyway. Might have missed the lights on the buoy for all the lights up on land. Still no excuse, imho. Says he was coming back from Chesapeake Inn so you can draw your own conclusions as to his sobriety.....probably running fast and navigating solely by GPS. 20 feet off of actual location (common GPS error) can put you right into a buoy. You GOTTA keep a sharp eye out at night and not just count on your GPS.

Wow that looks AWESOME !!!! I wish I could come hang out with everyone.. Boating is very high on my list of priorities, but not above a surprise party for my mom. I hope the weather is nice Saturday for you guys. Maybe we can plan a raft up for a weekend in September..

I will be out Sunday..

Oh, btw Scott, I didn't hear from the marina today, so I guess my boat didn't sink last night :D Did it even end up storming there? We had a few storms here last night once we got home from the marina.

I've gotten some differing info on the water depth at Lloyd's. I need 3 feet. Would I have that if I enter by the cliff's and is that depth available inside the cut? I usually hit Still Pond, but would love to try a new location and meet some of you all.

Thanks
You won't have a problem. Just have your swimsuit on already so you can jump over the side if you get into too shallow of water once inside the creek. Most of it is only waist deep or less. The cliff entrance is easy 9 feet, but narrow. Stay to port close to the fallen tree.

It stormed late at night here in Jarrettsville, 20 miles away. I'm sure your ride was good!

We'll hang out with you guys Sunday at Lloyd's too! I'm excited to boat 2 days in a row, haven't done that since 4th of July week.

My wife has to take our son to the air port in Philly Sunday morning at 4:00 dark time. So we will be a Lloyds Creek later, maybe around 1 pm or so. Has anyone ever gone across to the other side or is it just in that one area by the entrance.?

Monday on the Flats.

We tried to take my son Kite Boarding but no wind. Next we tried the wake board from the kite but the handle on the ski rope broke so we went to Tidewater where I bought my last one and they didnt have them anymore. Ugg. Inflated the Tube and had some fun till the Bridle broke. Brother arrives with a new ski rope. Back to the wake board. Great ride but broke one of the foot straps. Put my 11 year old in for her second attempt at water skiing and she got up on the first try. Huge Grin. Price less. No storms where we were but when we arrived home everything was wet. It was a great day monday before my son headed off for college.

The Johnon 150 didnt break :). Yes she does. I use to have a Merc. 115 tower of power but the 150 has so much more bottom end power.

How is the sailing going? I hope to have my harpoon in the water this weekend. Pray for good wind at Hartmiller Island.

sailing is going good. These poeple who live at my marina said I use the boat more than oneone else at the marina.
I hardly ever see anyone else at thier boat.
And I use it maybe once a week, if that.
I think you would have much more wind on the coast, but HDG is so far from open water, that you don't get good wind every day like you would on the ocean.

Well, the weekend is fast approaching!!! Lets get some plans set here. I will be down on Saturday, sadly my wife won't be a long.

I also know that Scott will be out as well.

Anybody else coming over to Lloyds to hang out with us?

If so, what time are you thinking of getting there?

Brandon, do you want to meet and head over together?
We should also do some food planning too!

I'll be down Saturday for sure!

And some big boats have gone in and out of Lloyd's, what kind of boat do you have NothanksDad?

It's a 330 Sundancer, w/ IO's so it draws about 35". I'm relatively new to the bay, and haven't been too many places. I'm running out of money to replace crap I break, so running aground isn't real high on my priority list right now...lol. We hope to be down to the boat this weekend. (tomorrow will tell) If we're down, we'll definitely try to get up to Lloyd's. It would be nice to meet all of you.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I haven't been there yet and am sure I could find it without a problem, however, it is always nice to travel with someone that has been there before.

What time would you like to meet where? I am pretty open. What are you thinking about for food? I will grab some things to share with everyone, just haven't decided yet.
