Re: Bob_VT's knees are shaking

On August 23rd I go back for xrays and a visit with the Dr. I will see if they will provide me with a copy of my xray of both knees. I know the top piece of metal is snapped onto the bone after it has been cut and trimmed, the lower piece of metal is pinned, a plastic gliding button under my regular knee cap and a hunk of plastic as a wear surface between the knees.

Yes, I want the x rays to make sure there is no gluvit, no reevits, bondo or fiberglass cloth used inside there!! I have about 30 staples on my right leg and feel as if I have been stitched and glued. The staples come out on Thursday this week.

Healing is coming along however, there are times when the knee feels real stiff.

Hang in there BOB, it gets a lot better fast!Ive had the unlucky distinction of having three totals in 5 years.First one they kept me in 3 days, second two and believe it or not 3rd i was home in less than 24 hours. How fast did they boot you out?Though they are better than what we had before you will find out that there are things you wont be able to do anymore that you maybe use to.Good luck.

Both hospital stays were 3 1/2 days long and yes it's gets better every day.

Getting anxious for Thursday to get the dam staples out!

My Physical Terrorist was here today and administered the torture routine but my range of motion is good.

Yes, I understand there will be a few things I can not do with a set of new knees but, my son lives 3 miles away and he will fill in the gaps for me!

Even more flexible now and quite a relief. Really concentrating on PT to gain more stability.

I have a friend who is 86 years old. I think at 80 he had one knee replace then a couple years later he had the other one replaced. Looks to me like he can do anything that he could do before the surgery. He mows and bags piles of leaves. A big tree fell and he was out there with an Ax chopping wood. He is like the Bionic man haha My knees are going down hill too. Lesson to all you young people--just because you can do things that put a strain on your knees, doesn't mean that you should do them. Your knees will just wear out

Not that i expect your friend to go out and do things for the sake of proving a point but i found that my foward stability is not that great since the knee ops.You relly got to be careful what and how you do certian things that before were second nature .Its possible that this is just a me thing as ive had a total of 10 knee ops in my 54 years on planet earth.I had bad osteoartharitis in both knees so up until the total replacements everything else was a temp fix.

Re: Bob_VT's knees are shaking

Okay, I am 5 weeks out with my new right knee and a few months out with my left.

I have over 120 degrees of bending movement in both knees and my Doctor is pleased.

I have stopped using any walking assistant device however I still carry a cane in the car.

I have been given clearance to drive :D (Oh happy day) and swim. I am headed to the lake today on a friends boat to work on a sunburn and do some swimming.

The Dr showed my the xrays and I have 4 pretty large pieces of metal in my legs.

I still have a great deal of pain and my endurance level is still far down but I am walking like a normal person. For a short period of time I was walking like stiff kneed Frankenstein which was creepy.

Everyday I get stronger.

Funny thing...... I had my Left done in May and it was an easy recovery with lots of pain.....so I thought. Then the right knee in July and the pain was 4-5 times worse and absolutely different. The pain and recovery between the two same operations are totally different.

I tried to coax my wife into letting me take the boat out from storage and she said NO......not this year. :(

UPDATE

I have been having quite a bit of increasing problems with my new hardware :(

My left leg locks in the bent position and the snap when I straighten it is very painful along with being very loud. I visited the Dr yesterday and I was diagnosed with a "Patella Clunk" (;) fairly medical sounding term). I have to be scheduled to have my left knee undergo arthroscopic surgery.

More than likely the right knee will also require this in the future due to scar tissue buildup.

First my knees stole my Summer....... now it is impeding on hunting season...... 2012 is becoming the year that wasn't!

Bond-o suggested a grease fitting and use a grease gun ;)
