Had a great safe weekend tubing with the kids. All was going well until my bonehead move at the ramp. I was going to drive the boat up on the lakeside so I could back my trailer down the ramp to load my boat. Now mind you I am dry as dry can be up until this point and all is going well up to this point. I get about 20ft from bank, at idle of course, trim my outboard all the way up, so as not to hit the bottom, kill the engine and am going to coast onto the bank. I tell my daughter to jump out when we get close to the bank and not let the boat run to far up on the bank. So she just sits there with a deer in the headlights look, meanwhile we are approaching faster than I had anticipated. So I run up to the front to jump out and keep the boat from running to far aground. Did'nt take in to consideration to look at the depth finder to check the depth. I jumped out to what I thought was going to be sand a couple of feet under me and I never hit bottom, went right under the boat, hat was only thing that was floating on the surface. So when I finally come up I hear the roar of the crowd at the ramp laughing. Of course all my kids could think about was my safety and if I was ok. Ya right, I think they were laughing harder than anyone there was. But in the end all that was hurt was my pride. I dont think I will be repeating that trick any time soon.
