BOTTOM COWL How to remove ? 1985 115

Im Replacing the plugs on my 1985 115 i cant get to the 6th plug how does the bottom cowl come off ?

on the mid section just above the exhaust is a cover ,you'll see 4 holes if you look up -they have philips screws , then remove the bolts at the front and rear brackets on the motor -should be 4 in the back and 2 7/16 up front yours might have more - remove the throttle and shift links then the cowel will drop some - not alot but enough to get in there - just look at the front and rear of the motor inside the cowl and you'll see how it goes -

Why don't you try a wrench (box or open end) to take the plug off and replace. I have never had to losen the pan to change #6 on any of my inlines. JR

Roger that; I've never needed to take anything apart to get at any spark plug in any Inline.

All you need is a Deep Offset combination wrench similar to the one in the attached thumbnail.

You must remove plug #5, so you do not break it using the open end wrench. I normally use a cresent wrench, cause it is handy.

Ditto. You can get at the bottom plug using a wrench without dropping the cowling. You can also accomplish a pressure test on that cylinder if you use a gauge with a rubber extension hose.

quebec#1, on second thought... I think you need to scrap the motor. In fact, you had better sell the whole package > to me < since it needs plugs Someday I hope you get bored with it, because its on my short list of boats I'd love to own. lol ... I wish I had time to come down that way this summer to race ya.

Ah yes your the guy with the 25mph Gt 160 !
Just getting her ready ! Change the plugs today, fixed the trailer lights,repaired the wood on one of the seats, changed the foot oil and now im ready to raise the engine a notch or two on the transom and hope to beat my 53.7? gps record. (55mph ) on the speedo ! Looking for 55 on the gps maybe i could do it here in town up north the elavation is at 1300 feet .
