My two cents its a no brainer. Kids, family or ocean equals closed bow. Ocean fishing would be center console for me.

Re: Bowrider or Cuddy Cabin, why did you choose which..

My first boat was a 19' bow rider. Paid $1,200 for it and loved it. Named it the brew cruise if that tells you anything.
Had it about a year and got adventurous one afternoon. Traveled about 15 miles from port and got caught in a thunder storm. Got our butts handed to us. Ended up with a shattered center windshield and lost the cooler and 2 lifejackets out of the bow area. Had ankle deep water with cockpit and dirty ?shorts?

Next boat was a cuddy. Had kids by this time so shelter and a place to go to the bathroom became the priority. I never spent the night in it but it came in quite handy come nap time.

We sold that and went to a Walk Around. Best family boat around.

The grand kids love the bowrider. On the small lakes we go on it is great. Enough "stuff" piles up in the bowrider, would hate to see it if I had a cuddy...LOL

Re: Bowrider or Cuddy Cabin, why did you choose which..

Hi, all. This is my first time on this forum. I have a lovable old tri-hull bowrider right now, but I'm shopping for a newer deep vee cuddy. The reason for the change is having two babies in a year and a half. The First Mate would like a smoother ride in chop and the kiddies could (hopefully) use a potti and place to nap.

Speaking of which. . . If anybody has an I/O cuddy around the Chattanooga, TN area they'd like to sell for under 10 k, drop me a line! My tow vehicle is a Subaru Forester so I can't go too heavy.

So for me the equation is:
Young kids = cuddy
Grownups = bowrider

Hi, Cap'n- welcome to iboats. Please start your own thread if you want some advice.

Just for the record, I can't think of ANY cuddy cabin boat that could be safely towed by a Forrester. The 2009 model has a towing capqacity of 2400 lbs. That's the total for the boat, trailer and any "stuff" you put in it. Ain't happenin'.

Gotta 23' deckboat, not really a bowrider but close enough. We tend to cruise on the lakes and don't worry too much about rough waters. If it does get bad, we snap on our bow covers and the water that comes over the top rolls right off. The boat also has an enclosed head area. The kids love riding up front. We do primative beach camping too. Our enclousure kits makes it nice.

I'd look into deck boats for what your wanting to do with it. Great to ski and tube behind but also have lots of room and usually an enclosed head area thats big enough to change in.

A mid-to late-1980s, 16"-17" Bayliner cuddy with an outboard would be doable as long as you don't take a lot of extras with you. But finding a decent one (without rot, etc.) might be a problem.

But realistically, a more suitable tow vehicle should be on your shopping list.

i have a 23ft cuddy and love it, somewhere to hide from weather and spray, and some where for my 4 year old and my fair skinned wife to hide from the sun.

My Fletcher 19 GTS Sportscruiser is the best thing I have ever bought! It has ample seating for 5, the cuddy provides good storage, somewhere in the shade for the dog and a place to go to the toilet, which from my experience; if your out for a long day with some ladies is imperative!!! I haven't done any overnighters yet, but having a small sink, single ring stove and toilet makes it a really versatile boat for its size.

But, it is also great for watersports. I have a donut/ringo/tube which it tows brilliantly!

The deeper hull you get with a cuddy also provides a lot more stability (which you need here on the south coast of England!), I have gone through 4ft chop before in it and it handled it perfectly, I needed a stiff drink afterwards tho!

Our choice was easy. We wanted a boat for day trips and water sports only, and the wife is claustrophobic. The cuddy was just way too small.

If my boat has a place to get out of the weather and a head, it won't be small enough to be called a cuddy cabin. Cuddy's are good for sweating your butt off in the southwestern states. I will buy a 27+ft cruiser if I want to get out of the sun and lounge. Bowriders are the fun boats for watersports and such, especially for dogs and children who like to be in the front in the wind.

Bow riders allow you to store all of the lifejackets up there as well, it's just under the seats.

I choose a Bow Rider.

The Number one reason was. WIFE SAID TO GET A BOW RIDER

To hot to sleep or Ride in a Cuddy in AZ unless it has Air Conditioning.
In the winter it wouldn't be a problem but I don't plan on Camping in the Boat.

Also the kids wants to ride up front of the bow.

Recently bought my first boat and I decided to go with a bowrider. We will be using it on a lake. It also provides more seating for guests.
