Brake caliper bleed screws

My brake calipers came with the bleed screws mounted in 1/8? NPT brass adaptors. The problem is that the bleed screws leak so bad around the threads that I can't get the brakes bled completely.

If I used the tubing method you can see air being drawn into the tube from around the threads. If I try to use a vacuum bleeder the screws leaks so bad that I can?t draw a vacuum.

I was going to order new, hopefully better quality, bleed screws but I?m not convinced that I?ll not end up with the same problem. I noticed that some of the after market screws come with some sort of the sealer on them. Does anyone know what they use for a sealer or can recommend a better solution?

Re: Brake caliper bleed screws

I would call the trailer or brake manufacturer and discuss it with them. I have been towing 9 different boats over 40+ years and never had to put sealant on a bleeder screw.

I also never had an adaptor for a bleeder screw. Usually mounted on the caliper or piston. The seat for them has a special taper which shuts off all fluid when tight. Even finger tight.

Something not right here.

Bleed screw adaptors are pretty common in performance stuff. No need to trash a perfectly good caliper becouse you broke a bleed screw off in the housing. With the insert, you just unscrew the insert and replace with a new bleed assembly.
