What motor is that on? Looks like an old Merc or Scott-Atwater with aluminum pump housing and stainless liners. Aluminum corrodes between the housing and liner, bowing the liner up and mashing the impeller. I suggest that because it looks like the rubber around the center, between the blades is melted like from extreme friction. I know you weren't dumb enough to run it dry.

Picture looks like the vanes had already taken a set, no matter how new it was.

Several months ago, I heard some folks talking about the brass center coming loose from the rubber with some Sierra impellers.

Wrong part number, very old part, incorrect assembly, or just a bad part. However, I agree that the vanes have taken a set that should not occur on a fresh impeller.

Re: brand new impeller disintergrated

I don't know if it matters who you buy the impeller from anymore, I went to a local dealer to get what I thought was an OEM Evinrude impeller for my 9.5, but when I got it home, I noticed that it was the exact same part as the one that I got from NAPA last month. It appears that the new BRP packaged part is simply a Sierra part reboxed now. The part number on the hub and molded in part number were identical on both. I would venture to say that BRP is simply contracting out the parts manufacturing for the older motors to the lowest bidder these days as is often done in the automotive field.

Sierra may be the only one still making some of the early model impellers?
I had the same thing with a brand new Merc motor, the new part from Merc was a Sierra part reboxed.
