Will it will not be much longer for getting the boats out on the water as the rivers around here are breaking up.
Just hope fishcamp and parents house in another village make it through alright.
Hope to get out and get some birds for the soup pot.
Wonder how our king run will be this year as it was not very good last year.

Darn state allowed commercial fishing and the numbers were way down in a lot of rivers.

Getting itchy because of being land locked for a couple of weeks.

Re: Breakup

I hear ya there!
Most of our lakes are open down here in Wasilla/Anchorage also. The Big Su is open and runnable, just high and lots of debris right now. Things should settle down soon.
I am hoping for a good King run myself. I live about 20 minutes from Burma Landing on the Little Su. With the Deshka restrictions, the Little Su is gonna get hammered with boats this year. I hope we make it through without any deaths. It is a small winding river and there are some big boats that run it.

Where at in "Bush Alaska" are you at? After all, "Bush Alaska" is a pretty big place. :)

Re: Breakup

I thought this thread was gonna be about some poor dude who was losing his wife/GF . . . You can tell where I was born and raised, we don't even winterize :p Still takes until April for us to get going for the "season" though. That must seem really stupid to you guys :D

Me too! LOL :D I think we have been this way before..... it's that deja vu thing.

Glad to hear it is getting closer to the season for you. I have a good friend who is a commercial fisherman and is headed up to AK in a few weeks.

BTW we just call it Ice Out here in VT :D

If he's travelling by boat he'll pass near me. We had a less than stellar salmon season here last year also and now the halibut quota has been reduced. :(

On the lower Kusko about 80 miles from the bay.
Hope our king run is better this year and the state does not open them for commercial fishing.
The water is starting to rise even more today.
Lots of logs coming down and hope to get a few if we can.

Re: Breakup

Gotcha. I hope your King run is good over that way.
I got a buddy coming up. We are going out of Seward for Halibut and Kings on the 30th and 31st.
These sunny warm days make me itch to fish!!
