ok im beating a horse, but wheres the updates? seems peolpe did buy them. how are they? im thinking of one for my sailboat.

sloopy hoews yours? i read it died? its it alive now?
Not bad, it's just a lawnmower engine on a lower unit. Their lawnmower engines are pretty good, and it's 4 cycle so it gets good mileage and no smoke. Also air cooled, so you don't have to worry about the water pump.
Oh you mean the old otasco 5hp air cooled deal, used to have one or two many years ago. Parts you can still get for the engine but as far as lower unit and shaft parts props ect i'd bet they are scarce. But they were tough little motors as long as you keep the oil changed, same as you do on your lawnmower, same vertical shaft motor. One thing about it if you blow your motor you could steal the one off the lawnmower and your back in bussiness I haven't seen one of those for years. I think Sears carried them too. You better not be in a hurry those things would push a 12' flat bottom boat about 5 or 6 mph. but one thing about it you wouldn't spill your brew
no im talking about the new briggs and stratton outboard, thinking of getting one foe my sailboat. yeah i know no salt water, but my boat is a 17 foot boat, with cabin. its only going to be used for day use. need something in case wind dies. so anyone else use one yet? how loud?
Oh sorry about that i didn't even know they made them again, is the Briggs co. putting them out or are they building them for someone else like years ago?
Bass Runner - They sell them themselves. Search this forum for 'Briggs outboard'. There's a few lenghty but informative discussions.
Funny lookin Briggs
Honestly, it could be well worth the money. If your going to be using it when the wind dies, you should be ok. You don't need to put it in a water tank or mickey ears to to test the engine, and it's a simple lawn mower engine. It's a 2003 and up, so it should be a little stronger than years ago. Just after you have it in the ocean, hose it down to wash the salt off because it will eat it alive. And don't plan on pulling skiers behind!
