Re: Bringing back that ol' Shine

I am most likely wrong (just ask my wife) buttttttt

Everything mentioned will work just depends on what you are trying to achieve.

Example

1. I would not wet sand my 60k Chap myself but if the gel was so bad that compound would not work I would hire a pro to do it
2. I would not buff polish and wax or poli a 1200.00 hull its just not worth it to me (but it would work).
3. But I might do a quick fix ( vasiline ) to a 1200.00 hull

My point is that maybe everyone needs to qualify there boat and condition of the hull and what they are trying to achieve before they make any suggestions
Every suggestion I have read above has merit and will work (for there situation)

If you wish to chastise me for my comments you must get in line My wife has first call on that

Re: Bringing back that ol' Shine

Funny thread. Anybody that knows anything about paint and most specifically how boats are painted would know that the only 'real' way getting that new look back is to either sand and buff back to the somewhat original luster, or to get the whole painted from scratch. Obviously the 2nd option isn't realistic but its there.

The Vaseline and WD-40 trick will work to some degree but the results will not work for the perfectionist to say the least.

As far as products go to buff and shine, geez there could be an argument that is 90 pages long. I used Mequires Boat products, they work good for me, but others might hate them, who cares.

Also I agree with CaptainZac, the value and type of boat would greatly change what I do with it.

Would you ever..ever consider suggest application of vas..or wd..penitrol or silicone spray on ANY boat Whatsoever for Any reason...

I dont think these options are even considered in my mind...and would Not Suggest Anyone no matter how Cheap or Low Cost surface they ( whoever They are ) want it.. its not IMO to suggest it..and IMO its detrimental..

However..some want the quick and 2 week shine..go for it.. I just have a hard time telling those how to come back to square one and go from there after they Damaged the gell..

I will not tell someone how to Damage there finish..and then tell them how to repair it.. ;) .

You ?

I would never suggest that, but I have heard of and witnessed the results of people doing things like that, not something I would do or recommend. I am on the perfectionist side of the tracks, where I usually take the long hard road to get results, whether their good or not.
