And I, for one will welome it-- I just LOVE clicking into cruise control and relaxing the right leg while on long highway trips. No worry about offending Smokey either if you set it at or only slightly above the limit. They do give you a little. And just imagine the lack of stress in your daily commute.

Yeah. I can hardly wait for when "they" put that little micro-chip in all of our heads so the control will be complete!

Re: broke a axle today at 70mph

Hi polecat77,

Glad to read nobody got hurt in our axle snapping accident.

Before replacing the axle, suggetion double checking the max loaded weights as well. Suggest upgrade to next larger size up. For example, if loaded weight is 2,900 lbs, then upgrade to next higher size of 3,600 lbs (instead of 3,200 lbs axle) as well. Thus, having extra buffer roof - for those double / trailer railway tracks.

Also... Do replace the leaf spring packs as well. Some say that any spring pack over 15 years must be replaced. After 15+ years, the steel leafs become brittle and snap. Thus, best to replace both axle and leaf spring packs at same time.

Hope this helps... And, glad nobody was hurt. That's the most important thing!!!!

UncleWillie made a good observation with those pics. It looks like the only good metal left was at the top of that square tube and the rest looks badly rusted. IF this was the original trailer then it was probably fine from the begining. However, being an older fiberglass boat and the way the tube broke off, I'm wondering if there isnt a little soaked foam in the hull making the boat a lot heavier? Hence the break in that location and in that direction? Am I thinking correctly? Its early and I have a cold so maybe I'm missing something...

A heavier axle tube is fine -- but did you verify the capacity of the spindles? Do you have any idea what load this trailer is carrying? Bigger tires and a heavier axle tube does not make a trailer capable of higher load ratings. It is the spindle, spring, axle tube, and tires that determine what the maximum loading is.
