Looks like it's coming together great! Bob did excellent work...

Excellent to see you keeping after it after 4yrs +/- great work! The flat hand rail didn't look like much in the first pix, looks good now...

Re: Buehler Project

Shully: I noticed you also posted a status update Q @ an old thread @another Buehler or Turbocraft thread If I remember correctly, it's been almost 3yrs since the original poster(OP) added anything to their thread. If it's been more then 3mo since the last time the OP posted, their thread is considered inactive & it's best to treat them as library books ~ for research, but don't post to them. That may start renewed interest & comments, none of which are from the OP. FYI

But, this did come up elsewhere, and may be of interest, it's a vintage '59 Turbocraft thread w/ lots of '59 info  You may need to register to see the pix & download the attachments....

Re: Buehler Project

Hey Shully, If you still have the original wooden steering wheel I may be able to help you out. I do a lot of woodworking and have done quite a few replicas of different things and I do enjoy a challenge. Let me know! Dale

Re: Buehler Project

Thank you all for your kind accolades. Wife seems to think working on this project keeps me out of trouble He, He, He. It sure does honey. When I brought this puppy home everyone wondered " Shull!? What are you thinking?? I knew what I saw under all that mold, Dirt, Old Stringers and Faded Paint. You are right Bob did an excellent job and I have tried for years to talk him into some business in wood working, He has a business already and only does this as a hobby. Every time I hit a milestone it excites me to get to the next one. I really wanted to splash it this fall but Perry from Big Bee Boats tells me I need a raw water pick up pump or I stand the real chance of overheating and cracking my heads. So the search was on and thanks to eBay I found one $80.00 but I had to make brackets and mounts. I guess I should have it rebuilt this winter. It looks like a spring splash it appears. I have plenty to do to get ready for winter anyway. The wooden wheel Dale is gone, It was so salt welded on I had to cut it off to get the helm apart to replace it. But if your up for a challenge to replicate it hit me up I'd be willing to talk to you. thanks or the tip Captain I'll check it out. though I having trouble finding it there is or was a plate under the helm station above the foot rest that read " Cutty Stark" If that helps anybody to help find the year and style or some paper work. Again thanks for all your help it's good people like you all that helps keep this project going. I'll keep you updated as I go along.

Re: Buehler Project

Shully, You have a Buehler Turbocraft model called the Cutty Sark. They were designed be the late Virgil Exner for Buehler and first appeared in the Buehler line up on 1966 according to what I have learned. I have the brochure that shows your boat. It would have most likely been powered by a Chrysler marine engine at that time. In my estimation, it is a pretty rare Buehler as they did not build alot of that specific model. Feel free to email me as I reside in NW Iowa and have been collecting Buehler history for a number of years. I am currently restoring a 1962 Jet 35 model. Love the pictures of your project!

Re: Buehler Project

well I got my reg ordered. I went for a reconstruction title. In PA and I guess everywhere else to get a reconstruction title you take photos before and after give them all your expenses , total them, subtract any sales tax you paid and the rest is the tax you pay to the State. Somehow the woman at the fish & Boat commission saw in bleached lettering on the transom "Staten Island NY" well sir we will have to call the Coast Gard from NY to see if there is a trace on this boat, clearly implying I stole this craft from NY. Anybody with any perspective could see this craft was well beyond ownership. the search came back negative. good to CLOSE.

Re: Buehler Project

SPLASHED!!! Thanks for the update. Need pix, please. Buehlers have a very special place in my old geezer memory bank.

Hi sully wow you have found a piece of history. That is definitely the cutty sark!!! The lower part of the hull on the cutty sark is the exact same as the bar harbor. You are doing great on your restoration. I just found this thread and will follow till finished. I think that that is the only one in existence!!!

Thanks Brent

Re: Buehler Project

Thanks Brent'; Yes it has been a project and before I found a brochure and saw some photos and some stats I was doing everything on blind intuition., Instead if having a Chrysler motor it now has a Ford. there is now only 24 gal of fuel plus a 5 gal reserve tank. instead of the 60 gal it came with. Can't stray far from the dock. The interior of the cabin needs finished as does the side panels, that's for next year. This weekend I'm taking it to deeper water for another test run. I should have some photos of it on the water and maybe a vid as well. Cruise on!
