Building sparkplug wire with boots

I purchased new coils with wires I have to assembly. I am having trouble putting wires together. Do I put end on wire then add boot or put wire through boot then put on end? Boot seem very tight just getting wire through not to mention with end on it. Any advice? Id there an easy way?

FWIW, I think put the end on the wire and push it into the boot, with some soapy water to help it along.

I cut a bit of insulation off the end of the wire and fray out the individual copper pieces so it has more contact with the metal piece... make sure the frayed ends are short and don't extend past the diameter of the wire. Push the metal pin into the center of the wire and push it tight against the frayed wire. Then push that metal end into the boot.

Getting it into the boot can be a bit tough; some rubbing alcohol might help slide it on - it evaporates after the boot is on without leaving a residue.

You can also use 90 degree crimp on connectors and boots. They can also be soldered on as well. You simply expose about 1/4"-1/2" of wire from the boot end, fold it back on itself, crimp on the connector, slide on the boot and voila! you're done. Here's aid of a guy soldering his on, but you don't have to do that step, if you don't want to.

I'm convinced spit is the single most powerful liquid ever crated. It helps you eat, build you spark lug wires and it will remove any and all stains from a kids face. Just ask a mom

in my neck of the woods , alot of moms chew tobacco, so the stains that get removed by "mom spit" , get replaced!!!

The very best spark plug boots are made by NGK. These are phenolic, can be had with or without resistors, and simple to assemble on the wire. They will last forever and are not expensive. These are similar to those used on motorcycles and snowmobiles.

90 degree angle connectors are $0.48 at Napa. Boots are $2 each. I use a MSD wire crimping tool. It was $5 or so and you use it with your vise. Strip back a bit of the insulation and fold the wire back. Crimp the end on and shove the crimped end into the boot. Whole process takes about a minute .

I use dielectric grease in the boot and a little on the wire and they go right on. BRP recommends dielectric grease in the boot anyways to keep it from "bonding" with the ceramic of the spark plug, so that is already taken care of when it goes together.

I have just finished reworking the ignition system on my Evinrude 15922 and with the stainless spring connectors.I warmed my boots over a infared shop heater till they became soft and pliable then pushed the wire and connector right in.

Ditto on NAPA. Other folks have had mixed results with them, but they're one of the few places in my neck of the woods that has copper core s'plug wire in house, and they'll order Sierra parts overnight for FREE. They have 5200, motor and gear oil and a few other basic boating supplies too.

WD 40 works well and DO NOT SOLDER WIRE different metals will promote corrosion
