Ford is quite a bit ahead of GM in engine tech, I think. Important to true gearheads.

The new "Coyote" 5.0 V8 is a generation ahead of the 4.6, and the new DFI turbo V6 is state of the art in both power and efficiency.

Re: Buying a new car MUSTANG

My dad bought a 2008 GT Mustang, he loves it but it only has 3500 miles on it.
I have to buy my wife a new Vette eventually, even though she already has a 1963.

If I had to chose between a new Mustang or Camaro I'd go Camaro, but in reality, I'd rather spend my money on an old one, rather than a retro looking, modern car.

Well I went and drove the SS.. Nice car.. Loved the heads up display, even-though I couldn't see it that well in the day time.. Really sticks to the road.. Love that all their cool stuff comes in a automatic transmission.. Had a friend who sold them.. Coulda made a score.. My head was on the roof.. Couldn't wear my hat..Ride feels like every Camero I ever been in.. Awful..

Dodge dudes.. Sorry.. I won't own another Chrysler product.. Plus challenger cost way more than both..

The Ford Mustang GT 5.0..It is wonderful.. I love this car.. Very fast... Rides great, drives great.. The engine.. Awesome.. Watched all about how it works(the deal took awhile) on a video that was playing.. Here is the one downfall.. You can't get all the models with a automatic.. You got to know.. I bought this car for my wife, so it had to have a automatic.. So no Gt500 of 302 BOSS for us.. didn't even get to drive one:(..
Only have phone pics to show now.. BTW she had to have those wheels and 20in tires.. Those are a aftermarket add on that just so happened to be on this car. I coulda cared less.. The wife loved em..
Here is a cool watch pitting the 3 together..

Removing the GT and 5.0 badges from it.. Having the ponies put on it..
That is what the wife wants. She said I won't buy her a horse, so she want every horse she can get on her car... So we will have a sleeper.. Will look just like the V6 model

Congrats.

Between me, my parents and my siblings we own 6 Mustangs currently. I hear great things about the new 5.0, even with the automatic behind it.

Re: Buying a new car MUSTANG

So I remember driving the very early 1990's Mustang GT's with the 5.0. I recall they had maybe 220hp and they were unbelievable in their day. Of course back then even the v8's of the day were pretty tame and 4 cylinders dominated. The difference between a new Mustang and one of those old GT's must be just amazing. I envy you Southerners. Very few of the cars I actually want to own are practical here in MN. I had a friend who moved up here from Texas for a job and their comment was why aren't there any nice cars here. Because it snows November through May. Good luck with your new ride.

I think the Camaro is the better looking car. Performance wise, they are both fast, good handling (for their weight) and not too bad on gas if you keep your foot out of it. Most of the time you will probably be cruising, not running WOT, so I suggest getting the car that you think looks best and would make you happy.

Yeah the standard come with a lower geared rear end.. Still I have enjoyed the auto... At about 25-30.. You jump on it and it lites up the tires.. It must be a wild ride with a standard and you better be able to shift good.. With mine I never miss a gear..

Here is some more cool news.. Can install the BOSS intake and won't void the warranty.. So $440 can bring 58 extra ponies.. At the REAR WHEELS.. That is awesome..

This 5.0 would make a great boat engine with the variable cam shafts..

If you haven't test drove one.. Go have a look.. Drives like a regular car with the crazy white knuckle power..

2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0L V8 0-60 mph 4.4 ? Quarter mile 12.7 @ 111.3

Now when do I get my a newer boat???

Thanks for all the congrats

How do you not light them up on a 0-60 run to actually get a 4.4? Just imagine if and when the next generation boat engine tech finally gets introduced? You still get carbs standard in a boat in 2011, while the technology and and modern ideas in these vehicles is just amazing.

HOLY SMOKES! I never realized they had those kinds of times, wow! The Muscle car days have nothing on the stuff that's coming out today. Nice to see factory performance again...

225 hp was the rating.....What were those 4 cylinders dominating back then? I don't recall ever meeting one...LOL.

I bought this 1990 notch brand new and it still looks new with ony 41k miles on it. I chose a notch because it was lighter, thus faster than a GT. Plus it didn't have the gaudy ground effects that I figured would give the car an unstylish look as time went on. It may not make the numbers on paper of the new Mustangs, but it puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it....Back then, it set me back $12,100 out the door. That car offered a lot of bang for the buck.

It will lite em up rolling down the road.. With a AUTO:eek:

here is a neat read on the new twin camshafts the put in the 2011 and 2012.. http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=32278

This is where they are getting all that power and still having econo car fuel mileage.18 city 28 hwy. This dang car gets better mileage than my little V6 truck:eek:, but you have to drive it like granny.. I have been driving like Steve Mcqueen.. It's tough not to..

Camero's answer is the ZR1.. Super charged version of the engine they are running now..
Dudes are installing vortechs( the cheapo supercharger) on their stock mustangs and pulling high 10's with the automatic tranny..
If camero wants back in the pony race.. They need to design a new engine.. That's going to be tough since the company is broke...

Go drive the Camero.. See what you really think.. Chevy kinda designed em like crap.. The dang engine gauges are in the center console.. I am 6'2".I bumped my head on the roof a couple of times just on a test drive hitting bumps in the road... Not a comfy car at all for me. The windshield is dinky, and out the rearveiw you see more of the rearseat than the road.. Looking cool didn't make it very ergonomic.... So since most of the time I will be just cruising and not running on a race track.. I rather have the comfort and be able to smoke any stock SS that thinks it wants to try it..

Yeah the new 5.0 cars are a step in the right direction. My brother has a 2006 GT that I drive a lot. Nowhere near a high 12 second car like the new 5.0s.

I don't think yuo can go wrong with the new Mustang, Camaro or Challenger.

Ha ha, let me introduce you to the K car and the LeBaron. When I say dominated I mean they were everywhere. There was no actual domination where performance was concerned. I always liked the old GT's and LX's but the interiors were just awful even back 20 years ago. Funny how every v6 has at least 225hp now but they don't move like those old Mustangs. Was the torque higher than 225? xxxflhrci, you must be in a nice southern state otherwise your Mustang would have started rusting by now even if stored in your living room if you were in a northern state.
