Re: buying new boat need advice
I'll argue the other side. I'm at about 65% of rated power on my aluminum boat and it is just fine. How fast do you want to go after all? I'm the type that actually likes to enjoy the scenery, troll for fish and not use any fuel. I can still hit 25mph with a family of 4 which is plenty enough. If you're not tubing or skiing you don't need a big motor. Save the money on a bigger outboard and use the extra money for boat trips. You can plane at what, 12-15mph? Also, more power to outrun the weather does not apply in your case. If the weather comes up you can't charge back to the dock at full blast, you'll be crawling along. Weather should never sneak up on you anyway.
