I am looking forward to warmer weather. Now I just have to come up with some more money so I can get a trolling motor and depth finder. That can get expensive

Yeup, those 2 items can get costly in a hurry depending on how elaborate you wish to get or the size of the trolling motor.

$3000 to go from a 60 to a 75? or was that a typo?
At Tracker boats the difference in price between a 60 4 stroke and a 75 Optimax is $1200 when rigged at the factory. "Additional charges apply" for motor changes purchased from dealer stock. But charging $1700 more to change out a motor is highway robbery.

Yep, you may have heard the old saying" a boat is a hole in the water in which we throw money".....
Or another one is B.O.A.T. meaning; Break Out Another Thousand
Happy boating...................

I'll argue the other side. I'm at about 65% of rated power on my aluminum boat and it is just fine. How fast do you want to go after all? I'm the type that actually likes to enjoy the scenery, troll for fish and not use any fuel. I can still hit 25mph with a family of 4 which is plenty enough. If you're not tubing or skiing you don't need a big motor. Save the money on a bigger outboard and use the extra money for boat trips. You can plane at what, 12-15mph? Also, more power to outrun the weather does not apply in your case. If the weather comes up you can't charge back to the dock at full blast, you'll be crawling along. Weather should never sneak up on you anyway.
