I have come to the mountain seeking knowledge great ones.

I have a 1989 Evinrude 50 horse outboard. I'm not sure how many of the 1971 Johnson outboard 50 horse parts are inter-changeable with my current engine.

Questions -
1. Does this outboard have enough inter-changeable parts with my '89 Evinrude to consider the '71 a potential donor motor?
2. Is the '71 worth messing with as a project to fix and power another boat or re-sell as a running motor?

That is electric shift outboard that is best left to someone who needs the parts. Very little if any of the parts on it are inter-changeable with yours.

Hell, I have a 1976 85HP and a 1978 85HP, hardly any of the parts can be interchanged between those two!

I think the lower unit drain screws are interchangeable. Beyond that, not much...

Good to know gentlemen. Thanks for the quick and concise answers. Your answers saved me 60 minutes just in pick-up and return time, $60 and a room in my garage.
