Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

I saw on the morning news that a boat sank on Lake Mead yesterday. There was a short video but no info on where it happened. All were safe and unhurt.

FD-I am still rooting for you to set the Striper record.

LOL, me too :D Though, I'm not going to do it monkeying around with the dinks on Mead. Dinks are good for the family as it keeps them excited that we are going to catch something. We probably caught 30 fish, let a couple go, a few cats (yuk), and a couple quick releases right at boat side.

I haven't launched in the Boulder basin for 10 years, so I'm not good for any information there. I used to go out of Government Wash a lot, but it's been high and dry for at least 5 years, probably longer...

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Thanks for the heads-up FD! I really wanted to go to T-Bar but was probably heading to Callville due time/distance. I haven't launched near boulder city and don't want to deal with crowds, but it would be cool to cruise the channel and see the damn dam.

Can anyone give me some advice for a launch in Boulder Bay if that's what it's called?

FD-I am still rooting for you to set the Striper record.

Lake Mead Marina (Hemmingway Harbor) isnt bad to launch if you stay on the left side of dock. Busy on Sunday afternoon like all the marinas

Don't like Hemingway b/c the ramp is so shallow I have to back my truck to far in and water gets in on the floor and then I got wet carpet inside the cub. Boulder harbor is only a few miles north of Hemingway and a much better launch. They dredged it up last year and extended the ramp to launch at 1060' elevation. Boulder is a steeper launch w/ no water in the truck and parking is close by. I launch out of Callville and haven't launched out of boulder for so time. I did boulder a couple times just to check it out after they reopened the ramp. It's a good ramp, I just go farther out the lake so Callville is a better starting point for me.

^^^ agree

(I forgot I went out on my buddies boat 2 years ago and we launched at Boulder Harbor, good angle on the ramp for launching.)

Thanks guys, Boulder Harbor it is for a short day trip.

T-Bar is 3 hours from my house. I'll go there for the over-night trips.

Yeah, I love the Boulder Harbor ramp. Same results at Hemenway as others, but was forced there for a couple of years.

It appears that it may have the steep pitch on the side of the ramp similar to what T-Bar has. Not sure from google earth....

I've launched there a lot. Never needed the steeper side, but it does indeed roll off to that side.

My 2WD pickup sits pretty low and the boat has a deep draft, so I need the extra tilt at T-Bar. Likely need it at Boulder. The Cummins exhaust sounds pretty good in bubbles, though!

The ramp at Boulder is a good angle and I've had no problems w/ it. The south side of the ramp does roll off for a stepper drop, don't know if you need it though at boulder. Here's a couple pics of the ramp from 12-26-11. Elev. was 1133 and now it's 1120, ramp goes down to 1060.

Yeah. Way cool! Thanks. I miss Lake Mead Marina being in there :( I had a very good routine down over there.

Did you take those pics? If so, great planning!!

Nice pics Skiya

We got back last night from a great trip. We got there Friday but too windy to launch. Sat was windy in the morning but laid down in the afternoon so we headed up by Mushroom. Sunday on was perfect conditions. Didn't take but a couple of pics on Saturday afternoon.

This is arguably the oldest 'houseboat' on Lake Mead. The boat is known as The Bikini Club. We met them Sat. by Mushroom. I've been hangin with these guys since the late 80's when they were at Overton. Some of the guys grew up on this boat. The original owner passed away last year :( He had been coming out on this boat for over 50 years! It's surely not much to look at but it gets the job done. There's cooking, ice chests, and original cots to sleep on it even

This is some weird weather, 70's one weekend and 110 the next

Now you have me thinking about my plan for Saturday....go to the lake or just go to Death Valley, which is closer. :D

Depending on where you go in Death Valley, that might not be a bad idea. I bet it's only going to get into the mid 70's at the top of Telescope peak (11,000') :D

Not my pic, but looks like a fun hike...

I agree yet I'm not THAT close to those. We've been to many high and cool locations in Death Valley. Awesome place! Some of the places to the Northwest off of the 395 highway are also a must see.
