Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada
H2o ****, You missed a hell of a day. the slight breeze that was there in the morning, never changed. The day was beautiful, lots of boats launched from callville, and stayed near the harbor. Unfortunately for me the day went horrible, but I made the best of it.
explanation: for the last 3 days I had been speaking with 2 different boat mechanics that do side work and will come to your house to work on your boat. I don't know how to change the oil in my boat, and don't have the pump for it either, so I requested they stop by and do it and show me how as well so I could do it myself afterwards. it was not changed for the last year and a half so I REALLY wanted it done, before I went out today. Long story short, they both wanted to charge $20.00 less then what a marine shop wanted to charge (which was not really a great deal, except for the fact that they would have shown me how to do it). In the end, BOTH of these guys flaked out, didn't even return my calls or text messages, so I just took a chance instead and took it out like that.
I started the boat at my house and it started after a few attempts. Then after getting to the lake and launching out of Callville Bay, Just after passing the tires, I made it approximately 150 yards out when I noticed smoke. I pulled over onto the shore, pulled out my fire extinguisher and opened the engine compartment, to my surprise, there was no fire, just lots of smoke (it over heated). the spot I pulled over was beautiful though, we set up our little camp spot and the family and I made the best of the situation.
I let the engine cool down and tried again with no one but me in it, but this time I kept an eye on the temp guage and noticed it climbing again, so there was no tubing or wake boarding like we had originally planned

So we had a little BBQ and enjoyed the time at the lake and let my daughter and little brother and sister play. Once we were done, I was able to drive the boat half way back, almost exactly to the tires again, before the engine was going to get too hot, at that point, we flagged down the next person who was pulling back into the marina, they were in a pontoon and we asked for a tow.
in case your on this forum, THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH again for the tow. I love how that's just a common courtesy to help a boater in need out. they didn't even hesitate, they just said sure no problem, tied up to me and towed me in. and that was the end of my trip.
the lake was beautiful and we made the best of the experience. so all in all, it was an okay trip. still bummed about not being able to tube and wakeboard though. here are some pics and sorry for such a looooooong post.
our resting spot after the engine overheated.
Kids having a blast
not happy about the tubing/wakeboard situation
but hell, its the lake, and I LOVE THE WATER, so here is making the best of the situation and still enjoying myself,
