Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada
What would be a good choice for a 2nd anchor
A Chene is close to what you have now, just more heavy duty. The shank is a bit different so it's easier to retreive, the flukes are heavy plate steel and the tips of the flukes are really pointy. I like mine and will buy another is I ever loose it. Dunno about the box anchors, they look good for sand/mud, but I don't know how they would work in rocks.... I've had a couple anchors that were bad, some funky barrel looking one with 2 claws on each side that were "supposed to dig in (something like the box anchor's claws) and a mushroom. I lost both of those, good riddance. I like the navy, but it gets a tad heavy hauling up a 10#er with 20' of chain attached, for a navy that will hold your size of boat, you'd need to bring along a couple extra sandwiches... One thing, I'll drop the navy overboard with chain and not worry about it, but I powerdown and set against the Chene, to make sure it's hooked up and not flipped over. I've never had the navy drop fouled, but the Chene can foul or hang upside-down. You have to deploy the Chene the right way...
some sporting goods will sell them with a warranty package for an extra $5-$10.
Glad I asked, I could see how one of those could get messed up after a couple of years, worth the extra cost and warranty. What store did you go to that had the warranty, Sports Chalet, Sports Authority? I wouldn't think Big5 would do something like that.
