Awesome pics and links guys! I love that sort of stuff. Weird how those pics are so similar to the Colorado river, river bed, as it sits currently around Willow Beach. The pic with Fortification Hill looks familiar, but I don't think you can get that perspective anymore as it looks the be right below Hoover dam, or many be up stream from Hoover a bit???

Not familiar with Iceberg Canyon by that name. Is that what's now known as "The Narrows"?

Hi John

Iceberg Canyon is actually at the top of Gregg Basin, past Sandy Point. See map:

Thanks 12,

Not real familiar with that part of the lake, only having been up that far once, many years ago. Impressive! I enjoy seeing photo's of the lake before it was a lake. Mzahn's post is really cool, put's it all in perspective...

Those are some great pics! I would love to see some of the river pointing toward the dam starting at calville area before the dam.
This forum is getting really good guys,so much info and pics too. They might have to make the lake mead visitors guide from here, lol.

Looks like Lake Mead's wind goddess has her stink eye on the weekends lately...
My daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandsons went out and splashed their new fishing toon this morning. She texted a half hour ago that it was nice all day except the last hour. They are loaded up on the trailer and out of there..

Very close to the times that 12v's weather majiggy predicted.

That was exactly how it played out at Havasu. Sunday morning was the worst and then after 2:00 PM it was magic. Stayed out until 10:00 PM on the water.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Friday and Sat were pretty nice. Friday morning was awesome, as these pics were taken around 10am, then the wind picked up a couple hours later, nothing more than 15-20 and whipped up some 1-2 footers in the basin. The wind died later around 5 Sat. when we were headed for cocktails and to watch the Kings lose at the Spirit Locker. We did an awesome steak BBQ Sat evening with some friends that have a HB in the covered slips who happened to show up. He just retired and didn't know if they were going to stay 1 or 2 weeks...must be rough!

The wind came up later in the day Friday from the SW, but Mushroom was great all day. The only other boat on the beach when we got there were 2 buddys who happened to come down from Meadview and had launched at South Cove. One of them is a neighbor 3 doors down here in CA. He and his wife have been spending more and more time there since he retired a few years ago. It was unexpected finding them out there since they usually hang out at big sandy but he had to burn off some old fuel so they decided to haul their arses down our way.

Sat. was nice again at Mushroom except the wind came up a little earlier. We went to Hualapai Friday to spend some time at our adopt-a-cove picking up trash. It wasn't bad.

The wind picked up from the NE later after were done with the BBQ, luckily because it whipped up pretty good and blew all night into the morning. Funny thing is that when we left TBar around 8:30am Sun the basin there was pretty angry but by the time we got over to Boulder Basin it looked really nice. Go figure.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Looks like we are heading up to TBar this weekend for the first time. Spend all of my time near sandy beach and the dam area...never gone this far up. Trailering my boat and getting a cabin for the night. Any tips, recommendations, pointers, etc. for a first time Tbar trip?

Just fyi, it's my family fathers day weekend, so wife, 3 yr old, and 5 month old, so not really looking for a party just what to see and do.

TIA,

Chris

Edit: changed damn to dam. I assume you were talking about the area near the dam, not the whole damn area - QC :)

Edit: Thanks- C :)

Hey there Chris. It's a relatively secluded, beautiful area of the lake. If you're looking for a nice close beach to hang out on you can go left out of the marina, about 4 miles to the Mushroom Reef area on the left side going north. There's some nice beaches there and it's scenic and protected from the main basin.

If you turn right out of the marina there's a nice stretch of beach about a mile up in the right, on the end across from the Temple called Decision Island - although it's a peninsula right now ;)

If you want to venture farther up towards Sandy Point, there are a couple other nice spots along the way, Hualapai for one. It's around 10 miles, at the beginning of Gregg Basin. Sandy Point is up at the end of Gregg Basin

I would definitely recommend carrying a map or GPS if you're not familiar with that part of the lake.

Have a great Father's Day there. You're definitely bringing up the kids right!
