Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

I've had a day that is extremely rare, for I am a very mellow, friendly, door holding individual. But everything I have encountered today has raised a bit of a temper. From driving nears others on the road who would be more attentive while sleeping, to shopping at walmart, radio shack & car quest. Then I post something in another location and I get P'ed by the responses!

I NEED TO GET TO TBAR!!!! :D:rolleyes::p

You and me both!

I'm headed out in 2 weeks. We're taking the motorhome this time and flat towing my early Bronco. We're going to stay Friday night in the parking lot at Buffalo Bills so the kids and their friends can go on the rides then head in to TB on Sat. and spend the week of the 4th there.

It's going to be a great week. We are thinking of driving a couple of car fulls past Boulder on the 4th, maybe near Railroad Pass to get a view of the L.V. valley for fireworks. Anyone have any ideas where would be the best place we could park with a good view?

Trailer Village will be a party town. We also plan on taking a day during the week to head over to Meadview in the Bronco and visit our friends and drive by our lots there that we haven't seen for a few years. It's about 45 miles off-road. Looking forward to bbq's on the beach and hanging with friends!

The water temp sure did rise quick with the air temps. When we were there 2 weekends ago the water temp was still about 72-74

Be careful out there this weekend don't let a few ruin it.
State officials will be cracking down on drunk boaters throughout Nevada over the weekend, including at Lake Mead.

Game wardens with the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) will take part in a nationally coordinated enforcement effort dubbed “Operation Dry Water.” In an attempt to reduce the number of drunken boaters, Operation Dry Water is an effort to coordinate increased patrols, investigations, and operating under the influence check points.

Events will take place at including Lakes Lahontan, Mead, Tahoe, Mohave, Topaz, and South Fork Reservoir.

Thanks Dan, Here's more info on it: http://www.operationdrywater.org/

According to a buddy of mine who lives at Havasu, they put in 2 temporary docks at site 6, Lake Havasu 2 weekends ago to handle boat impounding. I haven't herd what the 'turnout' was yet.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

sorry rangers,my days of drinking and boating are done.
I remember when i first started boating and wouldnt even bring a beer in the boat,I always waited till i got back to the campground. Then little by little i started drinking more on the water, why? my job sucked,my girl was makiing me crazy and other things that happened in my life that i was running away from.no excuse i know but we all learn from mistakes right? Now im older and drinking has a different effect on me,like 4 beers and im ready for a nap!!I still have a few and there mostly when im working on boat..anyway i just hope the new guys on the water drink with a bit of thought about safety.I was lucky and all my years on mead sober or drunk worked out for the best. There were many times i had too many and i usto sleep at the marina or nearby cove to sober up for the drive home, once i awoke to a coyote starring down upon me as i slept in the front of my bass boat beached upon the shore. These are true stories and some might find them upsetting but i speak the truth.

Well, we've all done a few things in life we're not proud of. This crackdown is a warning, and really a blessing in disguise before something bad happens.
Sounds like all in all, you've had some great times on our lake. The coyote must have been a little spooky!

Not really, ive made a few friends with coyotes around Las vegas bay just as they were moving the marina. The coyote was there on my bow at the same time span. They love hot dogs. dogs too i bet!

In the ad about operation dry water the rangers talk about 2 types of drunk boaters,I believe theres the ones who go and drink unaware of the rules and just havin fun till rangers show up,then theres the ones who go and drink and know the rules but dont care(beers first) approach, then we have the pros, know the coves, the times of day the rangers cruise, and just avoid these trouble spots.Like boating at night, theres no rangers patrolling at night and i always see the drunkest people at night launching into the night almost falling into the water at the ramp.I know lake mead boaters are all good people just taking life day by day but theres many things that if not watched carefully can become habit.drinking is one of them.

That video has been around the horn a few times. Looks like the tide was rising in that salty water as the trucks where going out. No ocean expert though.

Jeeps float better?

LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA News Release

For Immediate Release: June 23, 2012
Release No.: 2012-20
Contact: Randy Lavasseur 702-423-2596

Search and Rescue: Ranger and the United States Coast Guard are searching
for a missing male in the waters of Boulder Basin.

LAS VEGAS – At 2:34 PM, on June 23th, 2012, the Inter Agency Communication
Center received a 911 call referencing a missing male adult in the waters
of Boulder Basin. National Park Service Rangers with the assistance of the
United States Coast Guard, Maritime Safety and Security responded and began
searching the water.

The male went missing after jumping out of the vessel to swim. The winds
pushed the vessel further and further from the subject who was not wearing
a personal flotation device. The remaining occupants of the vessel, a
female adult and child did not know how to operate the 21foot boat and
called 911. The female adult and child were rescued and brought to safety.

At this time search efforts continues for the missing male.

The National Park Service’s advises to always wear a personal flotation
device when entering the waterways. We will update more information as the
search and rescue continues.

That is terrible news. I hope for the best but if not I really feel for the family. Tragic.

Yes, me too. Unfortunately it's a scenario that is heard way too often on the lake..someone jumps in without a lifejacket and the boat blows away. I've even heard couples jumping in and they both drown when the boat blows away.

I always jump down wind, if there is any, and wear a tether if there's no one left on the boat.
