Yes, me too. Unfortunately it's a scenario that is heard way too often on the lake..someone jumps in without a lifejacket and the boat blows away. I've even heard couples jumping in and they both drown when the boat blows away.

I always jump down wind, if there is any, and wear a tether if there's no one left on the boat.

Great advice, no one will leave my boat without PFD and tether from here on.

Release No.: 2012-20
Contact: Randy Lavasseur 702-423-2596

Search The female adult and child were rescued and brought to safety.

This breaks my heart, this scenerio just happen less than a yr ago outside of calville bay, except there was no one in the boat.

The adult female didnt know how to start the boat and put it in gear seriously!or perhaps a 21 ftr maybe cuddy cabin and they werent paying attention, making lunch or something. Why doesnt the news tell the truth, theres more to this story im shure.these boats are suppose to carry a throwable life saving device.

i feel bad for the family and the guy,i wish i was there cruising by, i would have gave it my all to save him.

Yeah I rarely swim anymore except a quick dive in and back on board. Someone has to be on board that can help. I count heads, keep counting and bark when they get too far away. When it's blowing I bark even more.

I'm not sure there is much more to the story except the horror. Seems plausible to me just as reported.

Has any of the long time Lake Mead boaters every beached or over-nighted at Teal Cove(s)? By looking at maps and google earth, It may be a nice camp.

What is the deal with Gregg's hideout? I see a couple of structures there and a nicely sloped wash to beach. Will I get shot if I get too close?

Its not the bark thats important during these situations here, its the bite.

The true horror story is never easy to understand, but it would help other boaters not to make the mistake.the news never tells the whole truth, they have limits and boundries just like with our jobs.

Im shure his thoughts were a quick dive in and back onboard too, just maybe like us other boaters he said wow this waters nice, ill swim under boat, relax try to float on my back a while.everytime time i jump into the water in the main lake area i get scared and hold onto the boat as fast as i can resurface, not for the fear of drowning, but because of other fears of what might lie below.Im gonna try a test jump when its windy with a rope tied to boat and life jacket and see what happens. If i lie on my back and pull in the rope i should be ok,if the boat can out run me with wind. Not too much rope though as my hands will get tired soon i bet. When i was 16 we usto throw out the ski rope and we would start at the end and work our way forward with no life jackets, close to shore we would see who could make it nearest to boat with boat going like 15mph,sometimes we had to wrestle the others on the rope to get past them.this is stupid and we were young but i learned alot from it.Like i say, i speak the truth

I houseboated at the Teal Coves area back in '87. I remember it well. It was a great trip (like they all aren't :D] The lake was way up with a nice, soft, steady breeze from the north. With the wind protection from the cliffs I could ski on glassy conditions in the coves and then take my Hobie out in the main basin and fly hull. The water level was just a couple of feet above Mushroom and I remember riding my standup out there and standing in a couple feet of water on top of it.

The Teal Coves don't have much to offer right now as far as nice beaches that I've seen lately.

LOL! I agree you do get some funny looks when you cruise in there. I've never stayed there, and don't really ever plan to. You gotta remember, for people to get there on land, it's about 20-25 miles off road ...

So Hualapai is probably my next destination. End of the bay for camp and the island (now peninsula) for play?

Back from vacation, played in the ocean at MorroBay,, death road (route 1) up to Monterey Aquarium, SF Fishermans Wharf, Reno Rodeo. Lots of good seafood, etc, etc... Fun trip, but good to be back.

So Hualapai is probably my next destination.

I took my kids to Channel Island west of Hualupai Bay in April and it was really nice. Deep water on the south side of the island to beach the boat, then a nice shallow beach off to the SE side of the island. The channel between the island and main land was about 20' deep as I remember. (It's where I caught my 1 and only fish of the trip...:D)

I never stay where there is shore access, roads going down to the lake... I've seen some of the groups hanging out on the shore and would rather steer clear of them. That's all I got to say, about that... (in my best Forrest Gump)

Still an island, and a nice one at that. I would go there or by Mushroom where we usually go. Decision Island (now a peninsula AGAIN) has a nice beach for day camping, but isn't protected enough to spend the night. There are many spots on the east side of Temple Basin as well that are protected you can check out.

I don't recommend that any Lake Mead boaters launch at T-Bar, it is too far away and not many good places to beach and camp. Stay close to Vegas and don't waste your fuel.....;):D

I found a map from fish-n-map co. in the boat when I bought it and it has the best detail of all of the Mead maps that I have. I could spend (most) of the rest of my life at T-Bar exploring that area of the lake and be very content.

Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life

I recently scanned some detailed maps into my home computer that I'll share when I get some time.

We're heading to Stateline Friday and onto TBar Sat. to spend the week. If anyone is out, be sure to say hi. Me and some of the gang out there have got a 'bucket list' thing going to do by the end of the week. My contribution was to get as many up behind our boat on kneeboards that we can. Why kneeboards? I dunno, I guess because it would be easier to get more than 10 up without having all these old timers (not me of course :D) struggling to get up on a deep start at once. I'm looking forward to see what everyone else wants to do  I have 3 other friends out there that air chair, and I've always wanted to get all 4 of us up at once, but they won't all be out next week.

Now that's funny. Was my experience at Havasu this last weekend as well. Only had a couple of hours of no wind from Friday AM thru Monday PM.

I'd really appreciate that. I am a map fanatic. Have them from many places and save them all.

I have a favorite morning reading place where I sit and read before getting in the shower and the main subjects are cartography and dieseltruckology.

Totally TMI. With that said . . . I have a VERY detailed, but old set of Mead maps. Great bottom contour detail, and I can email them. HUGE files! And I can't remember where I found them but they are USGS type stuff. PM with addys and I can send.

Edit: Actually less than 8 MB all three. They are basically proper charts. You want them :) And they aren;t contours, but soundings. Contours for the shoreline.

I like the part "watch for signs of approaching storms such as dark clouds"...geee, ya think? Don't forget to mention that sometimes the dark clouds look like they're falling to Earth and there appears to be a big dust storm under it and the water looks like it's in a washing machine over there..
