Grapevine Canyon is located about 7 miles west of Laughlin.

I took that byway once to see what was up there, kind of a "short/long cut" to Laughlin. The road dumps out just south of Cal-Nev-Ari if taken all the way from Laughlin up and over the mountains. It's really surprising how many pertoglyphs are out in the desert, if you know where to look.

Here's something to take up some of your winter down time. Queho ran a muck all over the lands now known as LMNRA. Where I fish at down at Willow was his strong hold, Queho Cove located a mile or so south of Willow Beach. As I remember, he ended up out in Pahrump somewhere. Kind of a sad story, but an interesting read of how things were here in the past.

Thanks for sharing this fishrdan.

I love this type of thing. My wife's uncle was the head of the Rincon near San Diego. Max was one that I always wanted to meet, but never took the opportunity.

The native americans had a great system and then we came into thier lives.......

Cool stuff! That Queho character was something else. Makes you wonder, we he responsible for all that he was blamed? They finally found his remains way up in a cave in the side of Black Canyon in 1940. Makes me wonder if he watched Hoover Dam being built

HERE is another page from the Queho Posse "club" I guess you would call it, named after the notorious Indian bandit. Check out the links on the page for all kinds of interesting history around the region. It even tells of Daniel and Ann Bonelli, whom Bonelli Bay was named. It's like every cove, every landmark and town name have so much history.

That Queho character was something else.

I read up on him one night when I was really bored, pretty interesting. One site mentioned he used gold nuggets to buy things (since he was pretty unsociable and not the working type) and I always wondered where he found that gold........

We never made it out to the lake last weekend, too many honey-do's and kiddie-do's. Hopefully this weekend since the weather is going to be nice.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

just finished my 4th trip of the year to Powell with the motor fishrdan helped me pull from the colorado in Jan. Now that it is freezing at night up here it's time to start thinking about another trip to Willow beach (500 miles!) . Motor is still running great. Hopefully gas will go down soon. It's $200 for each trip to Powell.

How were the trips to Powell? Were you launching from the north or south end?

Good to hear that OB is working well. It's amazing that the OB is still running after sitting at the bottom of the Colorado River, for what, a month+? I thought that the electrical system would have some gremlins, but I guess not. NICE!!!

Went fishing from both ends. Caught lots of fish. Supposed to be 80 degrees there this week but I am stuck working. Next trip will probably be to Willow beach in Jan.

Just an FYI:

Lake Mohave's developed and primitive ramps at Willow Beach, Cottonwood Cove, Katherine Landing, Princess Cove, Arizona Telephone Cove and Nevada Telephone Cove are temporarily closed for trailered-boat launching until Nov. 7.

The marinas, fuel stations, stores, motels, campsites and picnic areas will remain open, and boaters who have their vessels slipped or moored will still be allowed access to the lake. Rafts, kayaks and canoes are still allowed to launch; however, some tour companies have altered their schedules.

Here's Willow Beach's launch ramp earlier this week. (I could have launched my jon boat on the north side of the ramp,,, if it wasn't for all the "Launch Ramp Closed" signs...) It's good to see they are cleaning up the debris from the past several years of flooding, on the south side of the ramp.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Had a nice day on the lake today..Launched at 6:00 this morning and did a little fishing near Swallow cove...Ended up with 5 stripers and 1 small mouth all released..It got warm enough to take off the sweat shirt and the lake was like glass...That"s about it for now, next trip will be late December and I"m sure it will be a lot colder..Jim.

Nope,,, they did a lot clean up, but there is still a mound of debris on the south side of the ramp. (And they had their chance to fix it......) Is was about 13' lower than normal in the pics, around 630'.

Good to hear you got a few NW. I was on Mohave chasing big stripers from midnight to noon and didn't even get a bump. Oh well..
