Can I add a telltaleto a 15 hp Rude?

I found a 1975 15 hp rude with an electric start. It seems to have no telltale and what I need to know is would drilling and tapping the water jacket over the heads for place to put a hose barb for a pee tube be ok? Would you tap it at the top, bottom or middle? Is there a better place? Or is this possible?

All possible. I think on that motor, I'd be more inclined to go in at the top of the exhaust cover though.

I found the exhaust cover. It's got the terminal strip and rectifier in it. Right? Why do you prefer that over the cover the head? I'm not questioning your advise , I just would like to know the reason. My thoughts would be to see when the T-stat open?

The job of a tell-tale is to siphon water BEFORE the t-stats. That way you can see if your water pump is working. Unless there's a reason to go further downstream in the water flow (like on a crossflow V4 where #1 has a tendency to get airbubbles) I prefer to place the siphon as close to the water pump as possible. Plus, you mess up the exhaust cover, you can go get a new one.

I did a tell tale on my 1972 85 hp rude and it was probaly the easiest thing I ever did on the motor.
