Rinker,

You should REALLY keep your post ALL together in ONE thread. It will really help YOU and OTHERS to follow along with your project! You should use some PB to Glue your transom to the skin and clamps to clamp it all together. How are you planning on clamping it. Do a search on the forum for transom clamps. I have posted plans for them on several other threads. Take your time and make sure you do a DRY Run before you do the final Glue up. You only get ONE chance to do it right!

I'm just sayin...:D

I don't know if my eyes are gettin' bad, but is the transom cut out of OSB...

If yes, you need to replace it with plywood, plain exterior plywood is fine. I'd use something a bit better than CDX though.

If that is osb it will expand like a sponge. Never use osb on a boat ever.

I think it's more important to understand why it won't lay flat. What's stopping it?

I dunno... maybe it's not important?

Do you have a transom clamping system figured out yet ? ..

IF you have a transome skin that is irregular in flatness then you might be doing someone elses redo..

Got pics of the trans skin ?

YD.

After i removed the rotten wood there about 1/4" of wood on skin of transom that is in great shape. So I was going to use a filler to make it all flat so I can attatch the new wood.

I would go to the outer skin and eliminate all the old wood. It might contain the bacteria that will rot out your new wood.

Since you have gone this far to restore the boat WHY wouldn't you remove ALL the wood to the outer skin??? This would ensure that the repairs would last the maximum amount of time.

Re: Can I use resin to fill gap?

sorry bud.....that is wrong.

you will never make that flat enough to hold the new transom.

you arent done removing your old transom yet........none of that wood can be there. its all gotta go. then you will have the outer skin, nice and flat.....no problems.

i think you need to spend a little more time studying here.....read the link in my sig.......in the index ther is a bit on transom replacement.
also in the completed projects forum....its called skanky beast
