As far as the stringers go, do I have to grind all the old epoxy from the hull? There is a raised area along the stringers that is bonded to the hull. All the epoxy is removed from stringers. I was hoping to use the old epoxy as a guide when I bed the stringers. Also the stringers do not go through the bulkead. I have ground all the old glass and tabbing from the hull where the plywood was loose. I know it's a lot going on so please understand if I'm all over the place. I wan't to take advantage of any material I have out at the time.

No, you just need to have it clean...as long as its adhered. Just a note, what you are grinding is polyester resin, and roving....what you are applying is epoxy resin, and biax cloth.

Just keeping the terms straight ;)

Great news. Thanks so much. Do I need to be concerned with temp when using epoxy. I can run a small heater when I'm applying epoxy but I can't leave it on when I leave. What kind of window do I have to apply the material to set the stringers? 30 min ?

Which brand of resin did you decide on, if you use the 3:1 635 thin resin from USC, you have about 25+- min with the medium hardener. You don't want the batch to be too deep in a pail, it will smoke up, either use small batches, or transfer to a larger bottom pail after mixing.

70 deg is ideal, 50's to 60's are doable, under 50 takes a long time to cure...just stop early enough in the day, to allow a few hrs to set up.

I was leaning towards the west system 105/206 and the 403 to glue. If there is something better I'm all ears. I really don't care too much about the cost I just don't want to do it again.

Thanks Zool ! I'm hoping not to need more than 3 gal of catalyzed epoxy for everything. I think I can get it for 125.00 a gal with the hardner. Add in all the misc stuff like brushes rollers biaxial containers etc and I figured to be around 800.00 for the job including the plywood. If I'm anywhere in the ballpark I'm a happy boat owner !

Not bad for a boat repair of most any kind....and youre saving thousands in labor, while learning a new skill ;)
