In NJ the boat title has the type of boat listed, such as cabin or open.
If Rhode Island is the same way, you'll have trouble selling the boat, even if it looks good.

no offense but i hate that idea with the canvas looks bad and i kinda like the idea of a cabin so i can have a matress and some were to get out of the rain.

If you can't afford to fix the transom and deck in the boat, forget the cabin. You said your top would look better, that's not going to happen with just plywood and plexiglass. It would look 10 times worse. Even a dog house is built with some framing and waterproofing not just plywood.

well the floor i was do something about and the transom add extra support so it would be all good.

Hi smallboatlover. If you look online under "Fishing Dories" you'll find lots of pics that you might be interested in, BUT the cost of converting your runabout boat to a Dory-style set up would cost more than the boat is worth to a half-way decent job. I would try to sell the "junk" boat and take that money and try to find/buy a Dory, if at all possible. Unfortunately, you don't see Dories a lot in the States for some reason, although they are very popular in the UK.

.....btw as for the cost, it would easily cost over $500 (ore like $1000) to do a decent job once you paid for all of the tools, materials and extras, never mind the fact that you would certainly NOT get your money back, if/when you decided to sell the boat. I would either sell the boat, or try to enjoy it as is for as long as possible.

You can't support rot, you take it out, or throw the whole mess away. There is no magic "Easy" button with this stuff, you either fix it or throw it all away. How do you support a rotten transom to support an outboard. Answer that, because I sure don't know of any way possible.

You do a lot of big talk, just no big actions to back it up.

i get bored just rowing out to the boat starting it and going for a ride or tubing with friends ya it's fun but idk i like working on it more. i think ill just get the motor running again and go from there.

Well, it seems that the only real question you are asking is "will cutting out the closed bow hurt anything?"

The answer is no... Won't hurt a thing


Now on another note..... You can pick up free boats all day long that are as good or better than your chrysler. No way in heck can a cabin be built on that boat cheaper than free and I'm pretty sure the devil will need a jacket long before some plywood and plexi looks anywhere near as presentable as something factory....

Just bite the bullet and haul that thing to the dump.... then start scouring C/L 5 times a day for a free sailboat in the 19-23' range

You couldn't even build your restoration correctly, nor go back and correct your mistakes. You don't have enough skill to undertake a project like this, plain and simple. I'm sorry, but this is the truth.


Take the cap off of your boat, pull the decking and correct your structural mistakes. Then rip out your transom and fix the rot... this will give you more demolition and restoration experience, and maybe then you could undertake the cabin project... but then again, you don't even have enough money to correctly restore your boat, so you don't have enough money for a cabin either.

... and how about that motor? Is it fixed yet? Has it even been diagnosed? This is even more money you need to spend on your boat before you can think about the cabin project.

I suspect that you are very young and I like your positive look on things...

But....

If you are really serious all here would love to help you but as said before you would HAVE to get your hull structure in shape before anybody here would consider helping you with the cabin, Helping you build something unsafe for you and for others is out of the question .We will help you only in a professional way.
Please consider this. A unsafe boat is a danger to you and others.

As you may remember in your first attempt at restoring this boat, muliple iBoaters attempted to give you sound advice on how to restore your boat to a usable condition. This picture shows your boat and what you did to it after you had removed the rotten stringers. I am posting this here so that these new iBoaters can understand how futile it is to attempt to help you. This picture clearly shows how you did it and how it should have been done. IF you want us to help you then I suggest that you inform us of your plan to rip out Everysingle feature that you did previously, and then restore it following every single piece of advice we give you... To The Exact Detail. If not, you have no business attempting to do any kind of work on any kind of boat because your previous work clearly shows you do not have the skill or knowledge to do so or the willingness to listen and learn the necessasary skills.

How you did it!!! ------------------------------------------------------How we told you to do it!!!
