Can we see something in each other besides enemy?

There are no enemies here. Just differing thoughts.
I am recently retired and finally have time to do the things I like.
Like most here I really enjoy boating in the agreeable seasons.
Like a few, I have a wood and small metal shop and make a number of things, from exotic species jewelry boxes to quarterboards. Even a few furniture items.

But, with all that time I still run into a few time conflicts.

It seems the more you have of anything, the more is required of it.

I try to stay busy doing things in the shop... But sometimes, I end-up here, killin time and watchin carp on the tube. I'm debating whether i should sell all of my boat stuff and buy some amateur radio gear with the greenage.
Can't fish anymore due to perminent ligamant damage, and it even hurts to just put the boat in anyhow.

Dang 12, I am really sorry to hear that. I don't know what I will do when and if that day comes my way...

I went to a Ham class back when I was about 20. The guys who taught it were engineers and VERY smart, but they weren't so great at explaining stuff to us mere mortals. I never got past the morse code requirement. The father of my girlfriend at the time was really into it. He had a huge antenna that he made, hidden in amongst the tall trees next to his house and would talk to people all over the world.

Re: Can we see something in each other besides enemy?

As my career is in sales, I spend 3-5 nights a week on the road. Many of my posts appear late night, as sleeping in hotel beds is difficult for me. I come to this site when in my self imposed prison cells, and looking for interaction. I don't really care on what. I enjoy this site because it isn't the filthy mouthed, or single topic like many of the sites that fill the internet. It is also very well moderated.

I have very few hobbies as my time is used up for work and family committments. (Might be time to look for a new job :/ ) But having grown up on boats, spending a couple of years working on boats after college, and owning a boat I spend time working on my boat (which clears the mind and creates frequent frustration), planning trips, and updating her. My latest project for the winter is to rebuild the bolsters that run around the cockpit and reupholster them. From the pics you can see they are rotted out at the points where the bimini support rods go threw the mooring cover.

Also my wife took up sewing (she never ceases to amaze me with her talents) so we are going to reupholster the cabin cushions. I removed the "bathroom" ( a 3 year old would be cramped in it) and I am going to create additional useful sleeping area by making new free standing cushion systems. Nothing fancy, just practical.

I enjoy hunting in the fall, primarily birds, and snowmobiling which I pick up late in life, last year. What a ball.

Enemy's? I wish I could talk to my friends as much as you guys! Without differing opinions, what would a conversation be? d:)

I don't view anyone here as enemies. Boomyal is actually one of my favorites because he is always doing the really cool stuff with his boat. The engine job, that cool little fiberglass dam thing he built, the outdrive job. He does it right, and is not concerned with finishing quickly. I have a lot of respect for him, even if I don't agree with him on politics. His attention to detail on his project has been admirable, as well as others who have posted their projects.

Fishing/boating is my main interest, followed by mountain biking. Then there is my truck that I do little things to on occasion. I find that I just don't have the time like I used to for multiple hobbies, so I have to take them seasonally. I am into the whole Home Theater thing, which works well in the winter months. I am so close to just going and cutting a check for a flat panel tv, but that goes against my plan of just waiting until my current tv dies.

I am actually sorry I titled this thread the way I did, because I really did want it to be about people's hobbies and things that make us more likeable and interesting to each other. And I think that I got just that in spite of the questionable title I gave this thread.

The thing about seeing enemies comes from the almost constant barrage from the right on anything remotely political that makes it sound as though they view any who are not on their side as traitors and criminals who don't deserve the same kind of rights as the rest. THAT is what really wears me down and makes me get sick of coming here. Not agreeing with the president and his party, or not being a Christian is not the same thing as being an enemy of the United States. And conversely, I don't think that supporting the current administration means you are a cold, heartless conspirator against human rights either.

Thanks for those who posted their pictures and comments.
