I hit a deer with my Buick Regal a few years ago. I got a new bumper cover on ebay VERY reasonably and took it to Maaco to get painted. I don't remember the numbers but I had the whole thing back to new for only a couple hundred.

Somewhere on a lonely highway a bunch of racoons are standing over their dead friend saying "Can you believe a Honda did this?":D

I definately believe a racoon did that. It's just plastic and it sounds like your insurance is taking care of it.

Since you're a law enforcment professional, I hope you gave the racoon a ticket for j-walking.:p

Minimum $500.

I was going say 600-800 out the door

Coons can do some damage... Just had a lady in the other day who hit a coon with her older caravan...Hit a air bag sensor and blew the bags:eek: and the repairs exceeded the value so it was deemed a total loss

She was not happy and couldn't understand how a coon totaled her vehicle

Those older Caravans were "prone" to blowing the airbags quite easily though. In my opinion, a defect in the way they were set up. But racoons can do some serious damage.
I said $500 minimum, because Honda bumper covers can be some of the least expensive on the market. If that was my Impala, it would be $800 for sure, as the cover alone is over $300.

Its amazing what some things cost, sometimes they are cheaper than you think... here's a prime example. My wife backed her Solara into a landscaping rock a few nights ago. It has numerous scratches under the license plate area (kind of like curb damage). I just went by the Toyota body shop and they told me $372 to sand the scratches out and repaint the bumper. I think the estimate showed 5 hours of labor plus materials...

Thats cheaper than my deduc, so it goes in next Tuesday. I was prepared to see a $1000 estimate... so I'm happy! :)

Swerve?? Who in there right mind swerves a $40,000.00 automobile to avoid hitting a critter? Smash the sucker I say!

Why risk loosing control, hurting oneself or others for a varmits sake?

I think it busted the bumper and I ripped it off by running it over. I work 3rd shift. I missed a call from the body shop today and they were gone by the time I called back. So I still don't know the total, but you can find the bumper covers for my car all over the internet for about $100 (unpainted). We'll see.

Before spending your own cash on animal crash repairs, it's wise to read your policy....My comprehensive covers animal crashes and doesn't require the deductible being paid.

I don't understand why peoples continue to make statement like this?

I hit one several years ago with a Dodge Stratus R/T at 80mph. I must have caught just the head only. The factory front bumper/ground spoiler had a hole the size of a large orange and shattered the fog light. Some of his fur were embedded in the bumper paint that would not come off despite several attempts to scrub it off. If that coon was jut a split second faster at his attempt to cross the road my entire bumper would have shattered.

I'm with you. If I was in my Yukon it wouldn't have done a thing to it, but I could have been in my MIL's Lincoln and the bill would probably be $2000! Most cars are pretty well built know and this is one of the best cars I've owned. Just got off the phone with the body shop. $480 damage and it's all cosmetic. I think I'm going to call the insurance company and cancel the claim. It's not worth having it on my record for that kind of money!
