Come on guys....don't even suggest or encourage this type of repair. There are TONs of good used pistons out there if your going to be cheap. I know none of the dealerships I help out at would do this but, if they did I will make sure the tech and owners get my opinion and I will inform the customer.

As I understand the question...........

It WAS NOT a question to gain knowledge to deceive or defraud anyone.

It WAS simply a innocent request to all of us to know one way or the other if the unspoken claims of a well know substance were up to par and could actually return a scored piston to its original condition so as to withstand the rigors of a running outboard.

Unfortunately, in the question's shortened version, it would easily be taken in the wrong manner.

You are 100% Correct Joe It WAS an innocent request. I know 5% of what you guys know.
If dont know things i need to ask you guys with probably 200 years if not more of combined knowledge of johnson outboards.
I am NOT a workshop nor dealer associated. I am just a guy in a small garden shed who wants to learn about the Dos and Don'ts of working on these engines.

every day that goes buy and I learn something, i realize I know less and less than i thought I did.

if you hone the bores, you change the bore diameter. you cant hone and keep the bore standard it is a physical impossibility.

A wee bit off topic but still in the ballpark I think. spybot says his outboard scored the pistons do to an overheat condition and that the pistons are scored on the skirt only and no mention of cylinder damage (or did I miss this along the line). The engine I'm working on show slight scoring on the exhaust side of the cylinder walls and some marks on the piston lands but absolutely no scoring on the skirts. I'm wondering if these two different piston/cylinder- wall conditions are an indication of heat vs poor lubrication damage. - Pete
