We caught 2 of these today in the bay in West Palm Beach. Never seen one before either.

That does not look anything like the fish posted. Here are a couple more pics with different angles.

Hmmmmm....South Florida. Home of the peacock bass and a wide variety of other aquarium rejects..

I don't know, I have fished this state from Pensacola to Key West and have never crossed paths with that thing. Other than that extended anal fin, it could be a type of sea bass...I'll show the pic to some friends and see if anyone is more the wiser..:)

I've been fishing saltwater for over 50 years and have never seen anything like that. Couldn't find it Dr Bob Shipp's saltwater fish ID book either. Could they be escaped tropical aquarium fish?

That's what I was thinking. No doubt-WEIRD.

"Escaped" and "launched" are two different things.

People have NO idea what they are doing when they "dump" exotic species. IDIOTS!

That thing is a DORK FISH :D:D:D

Surprising you caught it on a sabiki rig, they normally prefer corn dogs...

Personally, I would be contacting Florida Fish and Game. They can identify it or MAY BE VERY interested in it.

Looks similiar to a Sand Seatrout - but the coloring is a bit screwy.
I'd definately do as DJ recommended. Let us know what you find out.
