Re: Can't get rid of hijack malware

NAh, drop it in the dumpster. I wouldn't risk putting the infected drive near my business machine.
Whoever writes this stuff needs a beatin, this is as funny as spray painting cars in the street. I suppose its good for the computer business.

There is a conspiracy theory that some of the coders write both the bugs and the fixes.

In a week or two the programs that didn't catch it will get updated and they'll work fine. Problems only spread because they are so new that systems don't catch them.

I've removed a number of trojans and the first step is finding out the name of it. Once you find the name, you find the files it consists of and start killing them. Then you can run programs to remove the rest. You can also search for files by date on a hard drive and look to see what suspicious things are new. Also, leaving multiple scanners installed can be a recipe for disaster.

Malwarebytes usually finds gremlins quite well. If you do not update it before running a scan, however, it may not find whatever bit of nastiness you currently have in your computer. If you can't get it to update in your machine now, download it on another computer and save to a flashdrive. Put that in the infected machine and boot it up to safe mode, the run Malwarebytes. It will most likely resolve your problem.

For xxxflhrci: After you back up to your Mybook, don't forget to unmount it ("safely remove hardware" icon) and then disconnect both the power cord and the USB cable. This will prevent the drive from being infected along with everything else and it will prevent power spikes from damaging it.
