No need to be terrified. It's good to know that you will be getting all the bad out and starting with new again ☺

You're 100% right - better out than in re. anything nasty or unsafe. For sure.

Really confused about those foam filled bow seat boxes! Couldn't have come from the factory that way, right?

A Singer Model 15-91 fromt he 40's or 50's is one of the best "HOME" model machines you can use to do upholstery, I and several other members have used them with great success. I have 3 of them in fact and All were purchased for under $50 bucks. They're ALL metal Geared and Direct Drive machines. The NEW machines are ALL Plastic unless you pay $400+

So any help on what process for removal / installation? Deck, transom, stringers out then stringers, transom, deck? Or transom, stringers, deck?

Perfect!!! I plan to go and get my plywood this week... ACX Pine 3/4" is what I figured... Correct? Instead of marine grade..

If you can get ACX FIR its better but, pine will work too. Once it's encapsulated with the resin and glass it's good to go.

use tite-bond III to glue the panels together for your transom

pastry bag helps lay down PB (or get a mortar bag from lowes - same thing)

back side of plastic spoon helps radius pb

Hey Everyone.. Sorry for the delay.. I got a wonderful head cold this week and it put me out of commission for 3 days :( feeling better finally today so got a chance to get back at it....

Need some advice and evaluation please on the progress and next steps to take.. I have done transom repair but never on stringers... Here are some pics from what I did today.

Got both stringers and motor mounts out....

Cleaned up the inside and have been looking at what I have next to do.. Which is..... Ummmmm.. Ya...

I am hoping I can get some opinions and advice as to what I should be doing next?? Can I purchase the plywood for the transom and stringers.... Get them cut to shape and coated with resin so they will be ready to install? Then do I grind, grind and more grind? What should I be grinding? Can I leave the channels in where the old stringers sat so I have a reference for the new ones?

Please help where you can to keep me moving forward :)

Thanks all!

Oh ya and another question.. I'm about 250lbs. When I get in the boat to do work, I stay in the middle. I'm concerned of the flex that is there. I figure this is because the stringers and deck are gone so the support is getting less and less. Should I be worried?? Do I need to do something different?

Thanks again and sorry for all the questions.

Bunk Trailer??? If not then strap around the entire hull with nylon tie down straps to help hold her shape. Piece of plywood in the hull helps distribute the weight.

Nice work so far. Hopefully you're taking LOTS of measurements from All Angles!!! Also Hoping you're wearing a very good respirator. NOT just a paper dust mask. If NOT that's probably what got your lungs acting up!!!
Next steps Buy the plywood and lean it on it's edge in your garage so it can acclimate to the surroundings. Next get a hooded Tyvek suit and rubber bands. Now Cover yourself with Baby Powder(this will really help stop the ITCHING) especially neck, wrists and ankles and put on the suit. Rubber band the wrists and ankles. Put on your Really Good Respirator and grab your grinder. Everything should go!!! No channels left. Everything down to nice smooth fresh glass. Then and only then should you worry about Making anything. TIP" a Box Fan with a AC filter taped to the back will help collect the Dust. There WILL be a LOT of it. 2-3 fans is even better. Shop Vac with filter bag and the vac hose taped to the grinder helps too.

Don't use Flapper discs. Go to Harbor freight and get the rubber backer pad and use the resin coated 24-36 grit grinder discs.

No Bunk.. I took it off the roller trailer and got supports under the keel as well the side chines... I did leave the cap on.. But I should still run the straps on it? Do you mean aaaaaround it like close to where the hull meets the cap and wrap it around like a belt? Sorry for being dumb :( Or do you mean a bunch of separate straps and pick a few sections from back to front and strap them over top and bottom?

Got a good respirator and filters and tyvek suits. Used them today for the first time!! :( I know my bad. But they will be going on for sure for the next stage... and here on in ;)

Am I to over concerned about my fat a$$ breaking through the hull?? If I stay towards the middle should I be ok? I will use a sheet of plywood to help distribute the weight as well..

Thanks WOG for the advice :) I will get a couple more fans and I got me a shop vac as well so that will help for sure!
