I've searched the board and haven't found my info so I'll ask here. Just what can swap with what as far as Force & Chrysler carbs go? I just noticed my top carb on my 1969 70 hp is damaged on the outside of the housing where the adjustment screw is located, making adjustments impossible. The outer lip of the housing is crunched up pretty good. Don't even ask...I had a little issue over the winter!!

What other motors can I use as potential donors? I saw a 1992 Force 50 hp carb for cheap, is that viable it looks visually similar? What about a 105 hp Chrysler set up? I guess, what I want to know is what year, and engines are compatible and any other pertinent info anyone may have? Thanks, I am constantly amazed at the wealth of info and knowledge on this board. :)

Re: Carb interchangeability between Chrysler & Force

While all WB carbs use the same mounting pattern and all are essentially interchangeable, on the three cylinder engine, you want all three carbs to be the same series. So, you would want three carbs from a 75, 85, 90 Chrysler or Force up to about 1994.

This is because most WB carbs are jetted differently for the engine on which they are mounted. The high speed jet LIMITS the amount of fuel delivered at full throttle. So, if you have two carbs with a larger jet, and one with a smaller jet, at full throttle that one cylinder will run leaner--possibly to the point of damage.

If the 105 is the small venturi WB carbs and not the big venturi TC carbs, they will fit but again, you would want three of them. Before you ask: Changing carbs will not increase horsepower a noticeable amount. If you put three 105 carbs on your 70, it will still make about 70 horsepower because horsepower is primarily regulated by the placement and size of the bypass and exhaust ports

Thanks Frank! Your info sounds good to me. So I need to find another WB8A donor carb or look at purchasing a set of three carbs. Great... and yes I realize that I could (if I could fab an adapter) put a 750 cfm Demon carb on the motor and not make anymore horsepower. I just want her to be dependable and solid when I get her back on my boat. Thanks again.
