SEE ATTACHED PICTURES FOR DETAIL

Actually I have two questions. I am working on the carb on a 1980 Evinrude 35 hp.

1. In the carb I am working on there is no spring connecting the float tab to the fuel valve (see picture). I bought another carb off ebay because I needed the bottom portion of the carb due to the previous owner breaking off the fuel fitting at the carb. This other carb also has no spring. If you look at the carb rebuild kit, the fuel valve has a recess where the included spring goes. Do I need to put that spring on the new fuel valve or run it without the spring? (see picture). Does anyone have a picture to show how the spring is supposed to attach?

2. Question two is related to the third picture showing the brass jet in the middle of the float. It looks like there is a smaller jet sitting inside the bigger jet. Is that supposed to be like that? It looks like it is sitting cockeyed to me. The other carb I got off ebay does not have this second jet inside the big one. The carb from ebay is from a 1979 motor and mine is a 1980. Anyone know if this smaller jet is supposed to be there?

Sorry for the long windness, just trying to get answere here. Thank you

I think some have said that many carbs didn't have the spring from the factory when the needle is complete steel. Your new one has a rubber tip so I'd try and get that clip on through one of the holes in the tab.

I believe the spring just slides on either side of the float arm, not through one of the holes.

If you are refering to the second picture of the carb body what you see in the middle of the float is the fuel pick up tubes. The larger one is the high speed circuit and the smaller one inside is the low speed circuit. Both should be there.

What you see in the third picture is the float needle and the float needle seat along with the spring.

You need the spring and read post # 3. The small curved end goes around the needle and the big end goes on the float arm to pull the needle out of the seat.

Does the straight part of the spring go left to right on the tab for the float? Not sure if I am being clear here. Maybe someone has a picture?

Hold the float horizontal, hang the needle with the spring on either side of the float arm, carefully drop the needle into the needle valve and align the float arm hinge for the shaft insertion (carb upside down), insert the shaft.

I have a E35ECSM (1980) and its needle does not have a spring.

Use the new clip, valve and seat that came with the kit (pic #3). The clip will help keep the valve from sticking closed. JMO.
