Carb Question - 1990 90hp Johnson

I am replacing the original carbs on my 1990 90hp Johnson (TJ90TLESB) with the carbs from a 1990 115hp johnson. The "new" carbs have silicone plugs in place of the little brass nipples that are on the "old" carbs. Otherwise, the carbs seem to be exactly the same...

Can I leave the silicone plugs in place and eliminate the the nipples? Or, should I remove the silicone plugs and replace them with the nipples? And in either case, what is the difference between one version and the other?

Why are you switching carbs?

The 115 carbs have a larger bore. The nipples, I believe, are for the primer system and they are necessary.

I concur with ondarvr - why are you switching? The 115 carbs will not make your motor into a 115. It will probably make it run poorly and use more fuel....

I am changing the carbs because a mechanic friend of mine has just rebuilt both of them and gave them to me me for the cost of the kits. So, instead of rebuilding my own, I am simply replacing the newly rebuilt ones with the old ones off of my motor. I will then sell the old ones after I'm sure all is well... Per your input, I will R&R the nipples since they are for the primer. Thanks.

I would sell the 115`s and rebuild the 90`s.

It's a labor/time thing... I'm changing the carbs because a mechanic friend has just rebuilt both of them and gave them to me me for only the cost of the kits. So instead of rebuilding my own, I am simply replacing the old ones off of my motor with these newly rebuilt ones.

Per your input, I will R&R the nipples to ensure the primer system operates as normal. Thanks.
