Carb question, Rochester 2bbl

[Striper Blues]

I'm having a problem where after the engine gets good and hot it starts to stutter a bit. Someone suggested the carb is heating up and causing vapor lock. I recently replaced the carb and the gasket was a lot thinner on the new one. The old gasket was about a quarter inch thick, but falling apart. Was this to act as an insulator between carb and manifold? If so where can I find one, I've looked online with no luck.<br /><br />thanks,<br />Pat

Is your choke adjusted? If not it may not be opening all the way? Also are the two screws on the bottom adjusted of the carb adjusted? <br />Ben

it is just rebuilt, the choke opens fully and it was adjusted when installed using tach etc. I'm curious to know if anyone else knows anything about insulating the carb from the manifold using a "thick" gasket, like quarter inch thick?<br /><br />thanks

You did not mention what motor you have but as a rule insulating the carb from the manifold is a good idea. I just bought a new manifold - carb gasket for our Ford truck with a 302 and it was a 1/4 inch thick gasket with rubber inserts @ each mounting hole. Got it from Napa so that might be your best bet...

i don't know if this will help, but i wrapped my fuel line with aluminum foil to try to reflect the heat.

Does anyone know where I can get a spacer to put between the 2bbl rochester carb and manifold to help keep it from getting too hot? BTW its a 3.0L OMC

I had the same issue with a Rochester 4bbl that I had recently rebuilt. The kit had the thin gasket instead of the 1/4 inch rubber insulator that was the original (84 OMC 5.0). Fortunately for me, my insulator gasket was in good enough condition to keep so I just re-installed it and tossed the thin gasket.... <br /><br />I can't tell you where to find a new one, but I'd be willing to bet that's your problem....

i have a 01 sea ray 280 with twin 350s 250 hp. does anyone know what how many turns out the fuel mixture screw is.
