I've been tearing my hair out on this one. I recently acquired a 1980 evinrude 85 HP V4 It will not start unless I spray some primer fuel into the cylinders. Then it starts but doesn't run right. I have checked everything. Its got good spark and compression. I cleaned the jets twice!. checked everything for air leaks or kinks in lines. thoroughly cleaned the carbs etc. Tested the pump. So heres what I have come up with. I just found out the carbs are not originals for this motor . They are from a 1979. I am not sure if the jets are compatible. How can I determine what size the jets are and how do I determine what size jets are appropriate? I just noticed that the baffles in the carburetor throat do not open fully. I will have to adjust that but I don't know if that will cause the poor idling and non start. Any advice would be thankfully received
