Is this a case of trying to make a boat be too many things to too many people? While it would be nice to have a boat be very versatile, if its' trying to be too many things, it's not very good at any of them. It is a nice looking party barge, though. Agree with the comments on the marketing - the gallery on the website shows photos under way at night, but I don't see any white all-around, or stern light. Is that a stand-up shower, or changing room - only for skinny people?

It is a great concept and a great looking boat combined with the Carolina Skiff reputation (and impulse) is why we bought it. It has blue lights and does have a stern light. Not a shower but a privacy curtain for the head.

I think that if they fix the one problem you will end up with exactly what you thought you were getting in the first place, and will enjoy the boat. On the other hand if you regret buying that type boat in the first place, that's not CS's issue.

Don't worry about resale. First, that's never why you buy a certain boat. Second, reselling a boat you bought new is always a big loss. Third, if they fix the problem, the problem is fixed and there is no problem for the buyer.

We have to all remember that there was ONE problem with the boat--the hull tunneled water up into the OB cowl. Everything else is fine. It's not like there is a list of defects. Sure, it was a big problem, but again, it's only one issue.

Agree. My problem....water intrusion and unfortunately it is under powered based upon the recommendation of CS and Jarvis Marine reps at the boat show. It was displayed with a 90hp Evinrude. We were looking for a pontoon boat for our family when all together in Chincoteague. Based upon the features of this boat it was what we were looking for. Even though the Funchaser is rigged for water skiing and wake boarding there is not way to do either the way it is powered. I am never concerned about resale of a boat.....always take a beating. When talking to Carolina Skiff they shared 13 other items that needed to be addressed on their end..........................................

pontoons just aren't made for watersports. Sure people do it, but it's an odd fit. thus they seem underpowered for water sports but they are matched for what they are designed for--carrying a lot of people cruising in flat water, no current.

Agree again with your comments but then it should not be represented as such.....

If I tell you that you can waterski with bananas on your feet, will you buy a couple from me? The problem is differing opinions on what is acceptable performance for a pontoon doing things that they are not designed to do. My dads pontoon has a 50HP on it, he think that it has adequate performance, and for a floating living room it does ;) You can certainly waterski behind it, but I wouldn't

There is a 'toon at my marina with a 250 hp on the back. Maybe he can pull skiers in the winter with it on the ICW but summer time traffic is asking for disaster.

I just heard from a Carolina Skiff dealer who told me that they are not making the Funchaser pontoon boat for 2014. They are reengineering it for 2015. Seems that they must have found some sort of serious design problem. Now if they would only tell what it is as they replace our 2013 boats.

And also my motor and trailer which will now be useless.

We know it has serious design problems since you arrived here. What is shocking is CS actually sold some of them! One test ride and they should have known. Curious as to your question ~~ hope they are not going to add more magic to your hull to 'get by'.

You bought it as a package deal and CS should take care of the entire package. Until you know how they intend to take care of the entire problem, don't bend over again.

And my optional cover and front bimini. Don't worry. In the end I expect exactly what I bought, just with a different hull.
The dealer also told me "All I heard was that they were holding production off for a year to make some improvements. Must have something to do with the hull because they are still building the deck boats and they use the same platforms." So I'll consider one of their deck boats in trade.

So ~~ you want to wait a year or so for a new hull.

I do not want to wait for a year.....I have already lost 1 year of use......................Carolina Skiff needs to "step up" and address this issue now...................................

No, I want it replaced this month. The deck boat is a different hull design than the pontoon model. It has been on the market for 2 years and doesn't seem to have the same problems as the pontoon.

I agree about it being under powered. I have a picture of the "package and price boat tag" as presented at the AC Boat show with the 90hp...do not know how to post pictures on this site....

It has enough power for the boat, just light for your desired use.
