Re: carry gun philosophy

I'm with kenny on this one. Up here very few people carry guns for personal protection. Most people up here think people who carry weapons are chickens. But on the other hand i think the average weapon count per household is about 5 guns.

You're right....the weapon count per household is a lot higher than what most people (particularly Canadians) even know. That said, carrying them on your person is a no-no and hand guns are off the menu.
The arguments for/against this issue are endless and will undoubtedly be brought to bear even here on this thread. However the murder/violence rate is pretty low. Here in Victoria (population 300-500k) I think we just had our 2nd murder. Odds our we will probably do the average murder rate of something around 10 a year I think?
I have my share of rifles...no hand guns (obviously). The thought of a public open air/food court/crowded hall threat is not even on the radar screen. I'm ok with leaving it that way...I've got enough to keep my mind busy without that fear included in my day I guess.
All Good Dudes..:)

You guys should live in Canada. We dont carry and have a lot less gun crimes. Makes me kind of scared to cross the border !!!

Actually, all that gun crime you hear about down here, is happening in places that have banned guns. See the criminals who would use guns anyway, don't want to do that in places where they know that honest, good, law abiding citizens can return fire.

Banning guns doesn't do anything to keep them out of the hands of those who would use them in a crime. It only makes those people more willing to commit those crimes, knowing that their victims can not defend themselves.

Funny, I don't recall this being a thread about the pro's and con's of carrying. And for those from Canada...if you don't carry, nobody up there carries and you know nothing about carrying...why are you even bothering to post on this thread? We don't care what you do or don't do up there...or what your personal veiws on carrying are...since you already admitted your ignorance on the subject. 'Nuff Said

It makes you wonder why things like legal drugs are controled by "big brother" and the reason given was to protect americans from unsafe drugs being sent here and then things like guns made cheap by the millions in places like Italy and spain come over in untold numbers.......hummmm I think anyone using a gun in a crime should get an automatic 20 years hard labor, but thats not going to happin.

What's that all about? The OP posted pros/cons of carrying. Are you moderator-of-the-day? If you don't like what they post, then move on to another thread.

He was looking for the pros/cons of what to carry, not whether or not to carry. But, there is no need for anyone to get hostile about the subject. I carry a model 65 Taurus revolver, it is what I trained with as a cop, I can, using it, out shoot most guys with autos. It takes alot of training to be really effective with any handgun. It is more important to have a gun you are comfortable with, it needs to fit your hand and point naturally at the point of aim. To me that is more important than capacity, or power.

Re: carry gun philosophy

Let's get back to the original topic, OK?
I've had a CCW license for years and carry when it's appropriate.
My job requires me to work in public places, often at night. My home state is gun-friendly but a lot of the surrounding states are not. Since I'm a law-abiding citizen and can't legally carry every place I'd want, I've gotten in the habit of carrying a Kimber "LifeAct" pepper spray unit on my belt. It's legal everywhere (even DC and NYC), has an effective range of about 15' and has 2 charges, or "shots".
When I carry my weapon I keep the LifeAct as my first line of defense. If they keep coming after being sprayed, then it's time to pull the hardware. I think it makes perfect sense to have a non-lethal -but VERY effective- deterrent available before resorting to deadly force.

Are you referring to the most hackneyed, ****-eyed piece of political propaganda produced by Hollywood in recent years? If you believe it...you can have it. Oh, and I have some ocean-front property in Idaho for sale cheap while you're at it.

Arks---once again the voice of sense and reason. Very good suggestion.

Guy74--Couldn't agree more.
