What is the best way to go about repairing/replacing seats that have several cat claw holes in them? Our Pontoon is a 2008 Sunchaser that was new (stored in a showroom, never used) Our neighbor's cat clawed the Velcro enclosures on the cover to gain access. The damage is on the seats top of the seats, captain's chair and on the vinyl embroidered panel housing the speakers. Also does anyone know who is liable for the damage if the boat was secured with snap down cover and housed under an RV Port on our property?

There is a process that can repair vinyl. If the mechanic is good you won't see the repair. Automobile dealers use these guys often so ask one in your area. As for the liability I wouldn't know.

Depends on state, would turn into insurance, and let them sort it out.

As for the liability issue, you are going to have a hard time proving that your neighbors cat was the animal that caused the damage.

Are you sure it was a cat? That sounds more like racoon damage.

I have talked to the wife she says she needs to get with her husband when he gets home this weekend. She doesn't deny that her cat has done it. The gray hair all over the carpet and top of the tarp is a dead giveaway!...She just isn't sure how they want to handle it.

You may try placing mothballs and/or dryer sheets in the boat when covered. I don't know about cats, but those items will keep rats and other varments out.

Thanks for the info...don't know about moth balls (GAG) but dryer sheets i can do. Funny thing nothing else got into the boat..only a bird's nest in between the pontoon rails and a small paperwasp nest on the underside.

Re: Cat claw holes in new pontoon seats

We have one of those (22Cal) and several very effective others. The only problem is I am sure they will keep replacing the cats...if it hits them where it hurts (pocketbook) they may rethink that scenario. My insurance will go after them for the cost and we will go after them for the 500.00 deductible. I know it isn't the most expensive boat but it is new and well taken care of. ($23,500 )

Set up a live catch trap. I just did on and traped a tom and relocated him. This cat tore up our screen porch trying to get in.

LOL. A very good solution for all except the cat lovers here.

I feel your pain "Roger", unfortunately, I'm one of those "cat lovers". Good luck with a resolution. Bottom line, your neighbor needs to man-up with a blank check. It's the right thing to do !!!

im no cat lover but i understand people that do love em.i dont care what i paid for a boat let alone 23,500 but if you cant control your animals you shouldnt be suprised if something happens to them.besides the clawing the first time i got a whiff of cat **** i would go balistic.

Re: Cat claw holes in new pontoon seats

I hear yor pain. I'm not a cat lover.:( I had a neighbors cat that was trying to set up home in my boat. Live in town so had to use a live
trap (would have rather used the 22 cal;)). Trapped the cat and called the local animal control to come get. The neighbors a couple days later
asked if I'd seen there cat. Told them ya that I saw animal control had cought it. Cost them a fine to get it out and they still let it rome the neighbor
hood. So trapped the cat again and called animal control. This time animal control warned them that if it was cought again that the would put it
down. So far no cat.:D

Call your insurance company. They'll let you know how to handle it. They may have you call the police and fill out a report. To help them and you
make them pay for the repairs or for new seats. Because if it's there cat they are responcable for any damage it does.

Sounds like the damage is extensive enough to contact your insurance company. Personally, I would speak to your neighbor first, and if they or their insurance co. are not going to cover the damage, then yours would and should.
