MikDee, I think you might have your info backwards. Not sure about positive ground where spark is used I only have experience with positive ground diesal systems so no spark to deal with there, but check out this link.http://www.howstuffworks.com/ignition-system2.htm

MikDee, read the thread that Frank posted. He is right on the money, which is why the spark jumps fom the electrode to ground. What you are referring to is the flow of electrons which is opposite of voltage.

Also it is interesting to note here, that the spark always travels from the Negative, to the Positive pole, so actually the spark travels from the side electrode (normally ground) to the center electrode (positive), unless your system is actually Positive gound .

The path is created from ground..spark the other way

Just to answer your Question i like NGK plugs over Champion Simply Ive had better luck with them.

Out for about 4 hours today on the local lake, very happy with the NGK's, I used to get a loud "snort" and stall from a restart after floating even when the Champs were new, none of that today, fired crisp and no stall, seemed to idle smoother and put-put smoother too.

Ben Franklin originally named charges positive (+) and negative (-) when he was studying static electricity. Later, when scientists were experimenting with electrical currents, they said that electricity travels from (+) to (-), and that became the convention.

This was before electrons were discovered. In reality, the negative charged electrons move toward the positive, which is the opposite direction that people show current moving. It is confusing, but once a convention is made, it is difficult to correct it.

Unless you can change physics?, I rest my case, believe what you want.

I've been using Champion for years in all my vehicles, except for the jap bikes, and PWC's, or any foreign vehicles that come standard with NGK's, then I use them, actually I like both, I think it depends on the application. I don't care for AC's, Accel's, Bosch, or Splitfires, I've tried all these, and they don't impress me, not sure about Autolites? never really tried them, but I tried Denso's once, and I liked them, can't recall the application though?

AC's in the 350 GM boat, Champs in the big old 72 Tower of Power, might try NGK next, but its a crank up rebuild on double oil still, NGK in the Force 125, small old Johnsons on the champs, 3 Harleys like the NGK's, as the dirtbikes and honda trailbikes, mowers and such champs. Something needs a new plug now, I look for a NGK replacement.

Actually I did say my preference in the beginning of this convoluted discussion. My preference is that I have no preference. I have never had one particular plug make my stuff run any differen't than the other as long as the heat ranges are the same or comparable from the cross over. I have, however, had certain plugs last longer than others. Particularly the Bosch plus 4's. I usually take whatever is available at the local parts house and I've never had any issues. Distributor caps, now that's a whole differen't story, but were talking about Force outboards here.

......thats enough info for me, I'll look for NGK's and by the feedback on how often they should be changed...I guess I'm due.
