Remove bottom plug then remove top plug(dipstick)and allow to drain.
Reinstall bottom plug then remove middle plug(located about half way up on the starboard side of the drive unit),attach pump and fill drive with 2 qts of recomended oil.
Check oil with dipstick and reinstall top plug. Remove pump and quickly reinstall middle plug. Its normal for some oil to blurch out during this process but the loss is minimal if the top plug is in.
Recheck oil after tightening middle plug.
Drink beer.

There are several ways that will work, but the method that obj outlines above is the one recommended by OMC. Just make sure you know the difference between the drain hole and the fill hole. (see the link KG posted above if any doubt).

You can get an inexpensive pump that screws into the fill hole on one end and onto the gear oil bottle at the other end at WalMart for pretty cheap.

Like obj said, 64 oz capacity.

Only thing I'd add is to check the level several times over a few weeks after you've changed the oil to make sure you didn't introduce any air pockets (shouldn't have if you followed the directions) and to make sure you don't have any leaks. Also, might want to look at what you've drained (thats why I use a clear bottle for the used oil). If it's milky or frothy you've got water in it, which needs further investigation.

Good luck. Really easy to do, and may actually be safer doing it yourself than having a pro who only knows Mercs do it.

I just checked my gear lube bottle, it's High Performance lube. Blue in color (and stinky).

So blue=good
Milky/white=bad.
