look at the HP ratings and the rpm range. These engines are geared towards high torque application

The whole propose of this exersize is to find out what parts ,on this engine, are cheaper than Marine and can be easily converted. Like the head for example: possibly the only thing you have to do is change the freeze plugs from steel to bronze or is it brass, I forget, since i never get to it myself--get it. Less find out! Thats what this site is for!

Click on the specs and you'll see the reason for low HP. Look how small the intake opening is for for the carb. This engine is made for long hours of use and is in all probability simply detuned.

Most of the industrial engines are built for use in such things as generators and pumps. Most of your standby and emergency gensets use the 3.0, 4.3 and 5.0 engines but they are rated at a much lower hp due to the lower rpm they run at. I'm trying to remember the last 40 kw genset I installed had a 4.3 natural gas engine and it was rated less than 100hp. But then that rating was at 1800 rpms, the running speed of the genset.

might be the cam shaft too. Replace the cam, intake, head, valves, carb, freeze plugs and you got yourself a marine engine!

then again after replacing all of those parts, you might as well buy a new marine engine since the price would make up the difference:

cam: $300.00
Valves: $150
head: $400-$500+
carb: $250
freeze plugs: $25.00
labor: $1500.00 or so

then again, maybe all you need is the short block or the head, you would really need to price them out accurately and see if its worth it. It may or may not be. But if it is worth it, then jump all over it!

How about it guys. We may be able to save alot of money on this one. I've emailed these sites with clever questions to bypass the proprietariness, because I've got a tax number, they might give me the info if nobody squeals.I need help though. The more info the better.
